I'm getting a bit nervous...we had a church selected and called the rectory back in May. The woman told us to call back in the summer because they don't have a 2010 book. I called today and she said they still don't have one, and to call back in May 2009 - in 10 months! We're getting married in February 2010, so May '09 is 9 months earlier than the wedding.
Advice is appreciated!

was this St. Isidore? I have it booked for my Oct 09 wedding, so you should be able to call before then.
If not, just make sure you call as soon as they have a book available and I'm sure it will be fine since noone else can book yet either.
Churches don't realize how fast things book up nowadays- but yet they get weird if you book other things before them- blah!

The church was the first thing that I booked. If you are 100% set on getting married at a specific church, I'd really do that first. It's weird that she said they don't have the book bc I'm sure people book their weddings in advance. I would definitely call them back and ask if they could make a note bc you'd really like to reserve your date. HTH!

Cant they just use a computer program like outlook? or just write it down in a book...I would be a little more forceful if I were you...

We booked early on and they just put it in the back of the year before book so that when they got to that year- they just put it in. I would try to talk to them some more about it. Tell them how important it is to you to have the church booked and that you can't do any other plans until you have the church (even if that's not how you want to do it)

ITs not weird at all. They plan all their services/etc. in a large calendar-there isnt one out for 2010 yet so you will probably have to wait until the beginning of 09 if not the middle of 09.
I booked my 07 wedding in 05 and could not book the church until July 06---its totally normal. They put my name/contact info and date/time in the back of the current book this way when it came time they could move it over-ask and see if they will do this for you
They dont know if their mass schedules will change from this year to the next.....so they wont allow you to book until the church has its normal scheduling for the year-meaning communions/baptisms/etc.

That is really bizare when i called my church they took at few years ahead ... but we decided on getting married at the RH. If you are dead set on getting that day, book the RH and everything else and keep calling the church to book .. dont tell them that you booked other stuff becuase they get really upset. You are techincally supposed to book the church first
but if you wait until 9 months before you will be paying alot! better to do it now and pay little by little

I was able to book my church as soon as I booked RH. They put our date behind the 2009 book since they didnt have a 2010 book. I would try calling the church in Jan 09 and asking if they could then put you down. Im sure they can do something for you. Also try not to worry too much, Im sure they have more than 1 time that they can marry and if you keep calling, you better get it! I wonder why they can just put you down! My church hasnt called us back since we booked it so we can change the time. Ive called about 5 times and FH has called a bunch of times and e-mailed them.. hopefully they call back soon

I had this trouble (and I've posted about it). I called my rectory no less than 4 times before I spoke with the priest. I played phone tag with him at least 3 times... after two months of calling we finally met him 2 weeks ago. We're the first wedding of 2010 (also in the back of the 2009 book). The priest had to ask me when EASTER was so I could book my wedding... but I took that all into account. We have the day booked, but forgot to book the time... I'm going to call back in January to do that.

Thanks ladies...I appreciate your responses - most of which have lead me to believe that yes, I should be panicked at this point
It's going to be challenging to call them back and ask that they put me in the back of the 2009 book because the woman really implied that I was way too early in scheduling this. I'm reluctant to believe they know when they'll truly have a 2010 book, though, considering one woman told me this summer, and another told me May 2009!

Yes it is that church. I would think they'd be willing to book up to a year and a half in advance, but I guess not!

My church didn't have the 2010 book either but they did book the date for us and just put a note in the back of the 2009 book.
