When do you decorate your Christmas tree?

Original post by wc0143

When I was growing up we always decorated the tree on Christmas Eve as the rest of the family was arriving.

We'd have a live tree laid on it's side in the dining room of our apt for like a week ...

Now I can barely wait for the tree to settle in the stand before I try to start.

I'll probably do my dining room tree this coming week.

We'll go and cut down our family room tree in early December. So as soon as we get it home, I start decorating it! I can't wait!!!!! (Cutting down the tree is my favorite part of the season. )

BMD and Aga, I'm sorry, I should have amended that statement! It's not just a Greek thing, I just tease my FH about it because being a lame-@ss Irish-Catholic, my family doesn't do the name day thing, so I said he made it up!

And Aga, his family doesn't make a big deal about it (but there is cake involved so I need to get on that trolley!) but his mother told me that back in Greece it's as a big as a birthday.

We usually put it up in early December. We're alway afraid that doing it too early will leave a half-dead tree on Christmas.

Those of you that do set it up Christmas Eve, is yor family German?

Dh's Grandmother does it then, I was told it was a German thing. It is kind of fun. I 'm not sure when they put the tree up, but we go over in the evening & all help decorate.

And thoes of you that do it the Day after Thanksgiving, do you have an artificial tree?

I usually do it about 2 weeks before Christmas, so it doesn't get all dried out from the crazy apt heat we have.

This year we are moving the day after Thansgiving, so I'm not sure if we'll be ready for a tree two weeks later!

I used to get screwed because my name day was also Grandma's day so all the attention wasnt on me
