I was wondering when you are supposed to register? Do you register before or after the engagement party?

I think you could do it either time. We are not having an engagement party but i never heard of giving gifts at an engagement party....isnt that for the shower?

someone recently posted this question. there were a lot of interesting answers. but basically whenever you want.
if you prefer cash for the engagement party register after. If you have tons of stuff you want to register for and prefer getting gifts register before.

I would do it before so you don't end up with a thousand picture frames. You can always add more on as it gets closer to your wedding. And it is so fun

i didnt register b4 my engagement party, we got all money. well we got like 3 gifts, but we had like 110 people. we registered a few mths ago. things get discontinued so i wouldnt do it too soon.

I registered before my engagement party and I know a few people are buying me gifts off of it for my party!

We registered about a month after getting engaged. We did it before our e-party because a lot of people were asking.

we registered before our engagement party. we did not want to but a few people were harassing us to do it. we did not really advertise to people that we had a registry unless they asked. in the end we mostly ended up getting money but a few people did end up getting us stuff off our registry..which was nice!

you can register whenever you want. I registered before my engagement party but some people don't want actual gifts so they wait till after the engagement party because they want money. But keep in mind that some people don't want to give money and will just buy you something that you might hate.

*** if you register somwhere like BBB (where you can return anything off of your registry for cash) you can always return it if you change your mind later or are suddenly in need of some cash.
I think it was on one of these boards that someone said they´re registering for things they don´t really need as well. the figured at the shower they´d definitely get gifts and if they run out of items on the registry they´ll buy stuff from who knows where. They figure this way they can just return the stuff later on.
