I was torn cause I'm a TY in the mail the minute I receive gifts but I really only had one and it was my aunt, so while I wanted to thank her immediately, I also knew I wanted her to get a picture from the wedding so I waited. Not sure if it was the right thing to do or not ...

For any gifts received a week or more before the wedding, the thank you should be sent right away. You can always send a picture later on.

Irene-I've been sending out thank you notes as soon as we have received gifts. We are getting thank you notes made with a photograph of us but I think we are going to use them to send to our family, relatives, bridal and groom party members and really close friends. According to the etiquette books, you have up to six months after the wedding to send thank you notes. Though your guests and invited guests who could not attend have up to a year to get you a gift.

We have received three gifts already from people who can not attend our wedding. We did not send a TY yet but we did call each person up and thank them. We are going to mail all our TYs at the same time.
