When do you start tanning?

When do you start tanning?

How soon before your wedding are you supposed to start going to a tanning salon? Any tips about what sort of beds to use? I'm thinking of starting tonight.

it depends on how tans. I would start now to get a good golden tan and not tan the week of the wedding to avoid having any redness. Ask the people there what bed to use. I recommend a stand up instead of a bed. b/c you get full coverage and better coverage. where do you live? there is a place in east meadow named beach bum tanning that has a great stand up....you want to ask for a all browing bed...no chance of burn

Re: When do you start tanning?

I started a month before and never really got to go as much as I wanted (in all maybe I got to go five or six times). I wasn't necessarily TAN but I wasn't WHITE and my last week at work someone did ask me if I was tan, so I guess it was a bit noticable (maybe just not so much to me).

Where is Oasis? (or is that the name of the browning only bed). I used to tan in Huntington but this time around I'd like to tan closer to home (N Babylon)

Thanks!

I like the standup beds for 7 minutes the h60 @ hollywood tans. Start w/ 3 or 4 minutes and work your way up.

I say use the spray on at a spa, or use a very good sunless tanner. Skin cancer is the #1 cancer in young women......

Are you pretty fair normally? I am, and I usually never tan - just burn. Do you think it will work for a Nicole Kidman pale person?

ETA: I wish I had NK's skin - I am only just as colorless as she is.

Actually it's not..... cervical cancer is...but yes people should be aware, if you are only doing it for a wedding though your chance of getting cancer is next to none and Vitamin A depreviation is high in young woman ( 21-34) and Tanning increases your vitamin A which actually helps Ward off skin cancer....

Re: When do you start tanning?

Skin cancer is the most common cancer to hit women ages 25-29 and the second most common cancer (after breast cancer) in women 30-34.

It's actually vitamin D that you're talking about and here's some info on that myth that tanning helps with vitamin deficiency:

Such carefully crafted messages and testimonials extolling the benefits of tanning 'are convincing women that tanning salons are safe,' says Mark Naylor, MD, a dermatologist at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, an independent biomedical research organization in Oklahoma City. The industry spin also has dermatologists scrambling to head off the public's misplaced concerns regarding the need for vitamin D. 'These claims are ludicrous,' says James Spencer, MD, professor of dermatology at New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a spokesman for the American Academy of Dermatology. 'The great majority of Americans get adequate amounts of vitamin D.' In addition, the amount of sunlight a fair-skinned person needs to make a whole month's supply of vitamin D is about 5 to 10 minutes three times a week--just on the face. 'The same UVB rays that create vitamin D can destroy it in your skin,' warns Robert Heaney, MD, John A. Creighton professor of medicine at Creighton University and a speaker at the NIH conference last fall. So with UVB, more exposure isn't better--even for synthesizing vitamin D. Indoor-tanning packages, however, are often sold in monthly units of unlimited tanning.

I'd like to try the spray on tan. Anyone know how well it works and how much it is? I've had so much sun damage to my skin that I want to stay away from more if I can. I definitely want to look tan for the wedding though. I am way too pale!!

There is a place in Rockville Center called Hot Tan they have airbrush tan, where ppl actually do you, and you have no chance of looking streaky, its 50 dollars for the whole body and 30 dollars from the stomach up, not really sure why you wouldn't do your legs, but It's not a bad price considering places in the city cost over 100 bucks
