i tipped him after the reception. we gave him $200.

We tipped at the end of the night and I think we gave $400 for 167 people!!

I will tip after it's over but my BM suggested $850 for 170 people. He won't be getting that from me!!!

my dad will probably give some kind of tip at the beginning of the night to make sure a good job is done, and then the rest after if it is great.

I heard usually at the end of the event. It's 3.00 x how many guest you have in your wedding.

We tipped after. Our BM told us we give him the tip for the entire crew (waiters, bartenders, maitre d', etc) and they divide it up appropriately. At most places, they 'recommend' anywhere from $2-$5 per guest.

I hate the idea of the before tip to 'make sure he does a good job'... I feel a tip is earned, not a reinforcement for someone to do what they are hired for.
I plan to tip mine after, I am having about 170 guests, probably tip around 500.

Its in our contract that the MD 'fee' is $500.00.

Is that the tip, or do I have to still give him more?

My dad is tipping the waiters, bartenders and the chef before and I am going to tip the maitre d' after the reception.
