When do/did you get a joint account?

Just wondering when we should begin to merge our finances. My fiance walked in the door on friday, handed me a whole lot of money (his tax refund) and said 'Here, take this.' I put it in my savings (which I consider his too if he ever needs anything) but I'm thinking that we should get a joint savings or checking account soon.

We got a joint account when we were engaged so we could start saving for the wedding and cash gifts

Right after we got engaged to also save for the weddings and also for any cash gifts that we have received.

We opened ours about 6 months into our relationship. We were engaged after 18 months. Talk about planning ahead. Too bad I am the only one putting money in right now....and it was his idea!

right after we were engaged but I know some people wait until after they are married...i guess its all just personal preference

We should have opened one already. We got several checks for our engagement and we should have put them into a joint account. The next time we near a bank, I guess we will.

we got 2 joint savings account after we got engaged - 1 for the wedding and the other was for gifts. I was watching Suze Orman (that finance lady) and she said once married its best to have 1 joint acct for all living expenses and then seperate accts for individual needs. Just thought I'd share...

We got a joint account when we moved in together (about 4 months before getting engaged), so that we could pay our bills and other living expenses.

we opened one a few months after we got engaged and we are saving money for the wedding and a house in there, all engagement presents go in there......

We just ours last weekend.

We got ours right after we got engaged to start saving for the wedding.

we still have separate accounts, I guess we'll open a joint at some point but it's not high on the priority list...

When we started paying the mortgage on our house. We need two paychecks to cover it so we got tired very quick of moving the money between accounts. I really wanted to wait until after the wedding. You know keep that separate bc we did live together b4 the wedding but I had to cave. It was really upsetting for some reason.

We've had one for a couple years now.

we got one right after our engagement party. we got tons of checks and they were all written out to random combinations of both our names so it was the easiest for us to just get a joint account.

the day of our engagement party, FH's bank is down in Florida and we wanted to be able to keep all the wedding money together in one account.

We got a joint acct when we moved in together, about 1 1/2 years ago. FH is bad with money, and I work in finance, so I'm good with money. FH doesn't really know about our finances, I just pay all the bills, put money into savings, and tell him how our finances stand. I know this wouldn't work for everyone, but I'm anal about it, and he HATES dealing with it, so it's perfect for us.

We got the joint account right after our engagement party. We put all of the $$ people gave us into the account.
