Just wondering when we should begin to merge our finances. My fiance walked in the door on friday, handed me a whole lot of money (his tax refund) and said 'Here, take this.' I put it in my savings (which I consider his too if he ever needs anything) but I'm thinking that we should get a joint savings or checking account soon.

its never too late to start one however, like many of the other girls, we opened ours shortly after we got engaged.

right after we got engaged, but have kept our own personal accounts open as well

same here, having that one joint account makes it so much easier when it comes to paying bills for the wedding and saving.

When we moved in, we joined our accounts, but we then opened separate ones, too. I think a good way to start off is to have a joint 'wedding' account that you can save in, then also put your wedding gifts into, then that can be your joint account when you get married.

the weekend we got engaged,lol, that wwas also the weekend I started my second job and have been working 2 or 3 while going to Grad School ever since

We opened up a joint savings shortly after we got engaged, for all of the checks we got. We wanted to put part of our pay checks in there monthly but neither of us has the money right now, so its just wedding gifts so far.

we've had a joint checking and a joint savings for about 8 years now and i have my own savings

We did the same after we got engaged we opened a savings account to save for our wedding and cash gifts and our income tax checks but im not going to start the checking account until after we get married.
