FH and I are not registering for our wedding. We are only doing a registry for my Bridal Shower, the date of which is still TBD.
We're getting married on Sept. 15th, sooo, just wondering, when is an appropriate time to go and register for gifts??
I'm in grad school and have midterms for the next two weeks, so I was thinking we'd get started around the end of the month...does that seem like a decent enough amount of time???
I'm really not sure what the timeline is supposed to be for this...TIA!!

Re: When is an appropriate time to REGISTER?
I'd do it as soon as possible. My FH and I did ours a year before our wedding. We've gotten many engagement gifts from our registry and my shower isn't until September. I haven't heard of people buying off registrysfor the actual wedding in like 20 years. Usually only for engagement and bridal shower gifts.

Oh ok, great!
We're hoping to register by the end of the month, and I guess my shower will probably be in the summertime...

On LI, yes...in other regions, no. We had to be very specific on our website to please not stray from the registry....so we made a HM registry to pacify those who want to give wedding gifts from a registry
We registered in September, my Shower is at the end of February

Re: When is an appropriate time to REGISTER?
We live in FL, but our registry is gonna be in NY...we haven't really given much thought to it, honestly, because we've been so busy planning the wedding, and its SO difficult from out of state.
I think we'll register somewhere in NYC, which is convenient for all of the shower guests. I would hope that people realize that if its not on the registry, please dont buy it!!

FH & I still haven't registered, only because we are currently searching for a home! I think that we will be going soon(next month or so) though.

Yea, I'm with you!
The registry was never a priority for me...the wedding planning has always been more important to me.
I don't really see why I have to rush to register...it's not like my bridal shower is anytime soon. In fact, it'll probably be in the summer, in which case 3-4 months should be plenty of time for people to get out and shop from our registry.
I guess I just don't look at it as a pressing matter at the moment.

thats how I am. I am not in a rush, because I dont know what we are gonna want, the colors of the house, the style. so we are holding off on it for a little while, and I dont know when my shower is but I know it wont be anytime soon since I am not getting married until October.

Re: When is an appropriate time to REGISTER?
I totally agree!!! I don't get where the rush is coming from??
We want to take our time in deciding on items we really need and making a fun experience out of it...
I never thought about a registry up until today when my MOH mentioned it.
We just didn't really ever look at it as a priority. I guess its different strokes for different folks

I hear ya! I am in no rush to register for things I dont need / want. I will be waiting until we figure out where we will be living (unless it gets too close to the shower - which I wont know since the shower is a surprise! lol) Don't stress this stuff. Do it when you feel comfortable!

hey end of the month is plenty of time!
i actually started in december bc people were telling my FMIL that they wanted to buy things that soon!!!!
i finally tho have finalized it like last week and its all set. take your time. the good thing is that macys and other stores allow you to edit and add online so you can do it when youre bored @ home too ;)

That's the time frame FH and I were looking at too, the end of this month, beginning of next, and we're getting married right after you...

Re: When is an appropriate time to REGISTER?
we registered just after the 1 year mark.. i would register asap just so that way you have everything on there before the shower is planned

Re: When is an appropriate time to REGISTER?
i know it is very common to register when you get engaged and for people to send you gifts for your engagement and purchase gifts for your engagement party.
we decided just to register after our engagement party and before my shower.
if you register before your shower, i would say give at least 3 months so you have enough time before people get invitations to the shower.
there's really no 'appropriate' time - it's what you decide. HTH

Not sure if you've discusses when your shower will be or if you will be involved in the planning...but my mom wanted to do my pretty early like 6 months b4 the wedding...so you never know! I would just get it out of the way that way you're not stressing at the last minute

Re: When is an appropriate time to REGISTER?
I'm registering for my shower only, too. I'm getting married a month after you, and I registered about a month ago. There's no harm in starting it out and taking your time. Registering is fun, but it surprisingly requires a lot more thought than you'd think. I started out registering for like 100 different types of glasses. I edit it down constantly. Also, your shower will probably be 2-4 months before, and invites to that will go out a month before that!! So you really only have a few months between now and the shower!
