How long before the wedding is the bridal shower usually?
My big day is in January and my mother doesn't want to do anything during the holidays. Also, FBIL is getting married October 1. So I am trying to figure out when the best time for the shower would be. My mother was thinking maybe august or september. Is that to early? Will that step on FSIL toes?

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
I thought november would be appropriate, but i think my mom was hoping for a bbq type thing so the weather would have to be nicer. If it is in poor taste then we will move it, but she thought having it at someones house would be cheaprer

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
Whenever you want it. We are getting married in July and my shower is probably next month or in April (its a surprise, but I know it can't be in May and June is too close).

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
would mid/late october work?
idk if it's 'right' to have it before fbil/fsils wedding-i mean im sure you could, and i doubt anyone would actually say anything to you, but it might be a bit upsetting to them, you know?
for ex.: fh's sis is engaged and getting married 10 months after us..i know it wont happen, and your time frame is closer, but i would be upset if she didnt wait to have her shower

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
Can I ask you why you would be upset?
I only ask this because I get the feeling, especially from FMIL that they are not as excited for us as they are for FBIL.
I understand that some people might think it is inappropriate, but why should I only have 3 months of excitement when FBIL has had 2 years. How is that fair either?
Sorry guess this has turned into a bit of a vent.

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
ITA with you! Have your shower when its right for YOU noone else. I personally wouldnt get upset if that was me. I would still have a shower and wedding why would I be upset? JMO.
But to ans your question, my shower is going to be a surprise but bec of my busy school schedule it will probably be anywhere from 5-3 months before wedding.

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
I personally think that there is not set time, it is when it works for you. So if August is what you were thinking, than go for it!

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
Our wedding is in early May so I am thinking my my mom will be planning it for around March or the earliest Feb.
April would be too close/busy for the shower because I have my birthday, I am going to be planning my bach party at some point, plus my weekend getaway with my family for what they like to call 'the old people's bach party' LOL

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
Hello date twin!!! I think mine is going to be this summer...definitely early, but it's the only way to do it outside, which is ultimately cheaper. I do not think it matters at all!

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
As long as it's not a joint bridal shower I don't think she should care. I like the BBQ idea. It's difficulty to have a BBQ after September. Is your FSIL in your wedding? Is her bachelorette party going to be at the same time? That might split people if that's the case.

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
I think the shower is typically 2 months before the wedding so if you're getting married in January; Anytime between October-November should be good. You can always have your bachelorette party in December with your closest girls.

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
I think any time it's fine. it's usually withng 3 mos of the wedding, but I've seen special cases, like when the bride was OOT when it was a different time. I don't think another wedding should matter that mich. My cousinw as getting married 2 mos before my sister and we wanted her at the shower, so we had the shower the week before her wedding. it was fine

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
the shower is usually 2 months before. i wouldn't do a shower right around the holidays because people may not be around and its already a hectic time of year. november is good, it would be exactly 2 months before, but if not, do the bridal shower right before or after your FBIL's wedding date. a wedding and a shower have nothing to do with one another. let me know what happens!

Re: When is the Bridal Shower
Mine is on March 20th, and my wedding is in May. My mom asked if I wanted it in April instead, but it doesn't make any sense to do it then- we have lots of other stuff including Communions and other weddings going on in April!
