When it rains it pours lol

When it rains it pours lol

Yesterday we received a letter from an old reception hall we were going to go with stating that since we had a contract with them we owe them 50% of what the wedding would have cost and that they want a settlement.

Now I did book with them but shortly afterward I canceled because I did not like the way they were treating me. I would call them regarding questions about my wedding and consistently get brushed off or no calls back. Then when I told them I was thinking about cancelling I was threatened with a court case and lawyers which made me feel like they didn’t care about my wedding at all.

When I canceled it was giving them well over a year notice of the cancellation. So now I am going to contact my lawyer whom I absolutely adore! To see what steps I should make in this matter. The letter they sent me is not from their lawyer but from them.

FH has been more that supportive through all of this and I am loving him even more! Leave it to him to have an umbrella for my rainy days.

So sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately, most contracts state that if you cancel you owe them a certain percentage (or the entire cost) of the contract.

I'm surprised they couldn't re-book your room with so much notice though!

Wow!!! I am so sorry that this is happening to you. Can they actually do that to you?
Anyway, I hope everything works out which I am sure it will.

Is it in Suffolk? with more than 6months notice (which you have) you can cancel and only lose your deposit. Hope your Lawyer gives you good news!

is the hall you canceled in Suffolk or Nassau?

Suffolk has a law that states (i believe) that if you cancel within 6 months, they have to give you all monies back except for $500.

If its in nassau, you have to read your contract.

Yup unfortunately it is Nassau. When I look back on it, it ws very silly of me to do. I wasnt sure didnt know and was feeling pressured by this particular reception hall.
