When picking a photographer Do you think...

Original post by shellnroc

it's better to choose one that was recommended by your hall? Because they are familiar with the layout of the hall and will be able to take better pictures. What do you think?

Photographers that are recommended by your hall pay the hall to be recommended so it doesn't mean that they are any better than another photographer.

Very true

I just think the ones they recommend are either getting a kickback or are giving something to be on the hall's list. JMO.

I thought the same thing! My photgrapher had never been to my site before and he did a wonderful job. A good photographer has an eye for what makes a good picture and can usually scope out a place fairly quickly.

I think it's good for the photographer to have done some work with your hall, but you don't have to go with the recommended photographer necessarily. Definitely meet with them, but price, packages, and the photography style you choose are more important in the end.

We did not go with the recommended photographer. They use a very formal style, and we wanted more candid, unposed photos. That was our main reason for not using them--price, etc. was similar.

So ask if the photographer has done weddings at your hall, and also make sure he/she has liability insurance before booking.
