When Should I Register

I'm getting married November 1, 2009 and am not sure when your supposed to register? I was thinking about 6 months before the wedding. TIA

we are getting married 10/10 and we already registered a few months ago...We figuer that if things get discontinued we can always remove them/change the registry....

If you register with Macys, you can get 'points' towards a giftcard that will be issued to you ~45 days after your wedding. These 'points' are earned either when others purchase something off your registry, or whenever you use your Macy's card for in-store purchases (including clothes) from the day you regiser until the date of your wedding. So, if you plan to buy things from Macys for the holidays, I say register ASAP...you don't have to put a lot on your registry right away, just some basic things, and you can continue to change and update as you get closer to your wedding/bridal shower date.

I've earned ~$730 dollars at Macys through the registry, and I can't wait to receive it to buy some things from it!!

You can do it whenever you want, theres no set amount of time before you have to do it. Some registries we did over a year before. Then crate and barrel we waited until a few months before bc their stuff is more season and they discontinue stuff right away.

Just as long as you have a registry before your shower, then youre good

Register now.. people always asked us where we were registered, even the week after we got engaged.. People will prob want to get you stuff for your engagement, the holidays, etc. It's really never too early. You can always add or subtract stuff as the year goes on.

Wow that's great. I am always shopping in Macys. So everytime you buy something they will give you 'points'? What a great deal.

Re: When Should I Register

Im getting married in July and we started registering this past may. we registered at fortunoffs and bed bath and beyond, and i get emailed everytime something is discontinued so i can rgister for a new item instead of that one :) i must say it def helped to be registered already when our engagement party came around!!!!! all our gifts that werent money were from the registry! Nothing we didnt want. I am having my bridal sower soon and i know most of the rest will be bought. As has been said on other posts, most people on long island give money at weddings, so if i didnt register early enough, nothing would probably be bought that we wanted!!! (we are still registering to this day though, it takes a lot of time!)

by the way, fortunoffs does something like the poins. when people buy items for you, you receive money back. They give you a fortunoffs card to spend on whatever you want right after your wedding for 5% of whatever the total amount spent there was. (you can call up over the months to find out what has been spent and what you are getting back! we are planning to use ours on furniture and whatever wasnt bought off our registry )

have fun!!!!! registring can be a blast!
