when should i send out invites?

Here is my timeline:
Sept 11 - 27 : We will be away for our destination wedding (DW)
October 2 : Our NY reception

We want to have all responses for the NY reception back BEFORE we leave for the DW, and allow some time to do the seating charts. This way we won't have to worry about it when we get back.

Also not sure how much time guests are usually given to send responses. A month? 2 months?

By my calculations counting backwards, our invites should go out in the end of July, with responses to be returned to us by August 31. That would give us about 10 days to do the seating before we leave for DW.

Is that right? Help!

I think that would be fine. Since most people probably are aware that you are having a DW...it won't seem odd that invites are going out a little early. Usually, it's about 8 weeks before the wedding.

I know the standard to mail out your invites is 8 weeks but you can do as many as 10 weeks before your wedding date.

normally you send them out 4 weeks before the rsvp date, and the rsvp is 4 weeks before the wedding.
So send them 4 weeks before you need them back, which would be about 10 days before you leave.Don't cut it too close, b/c you may have to track down slackers.

ETA: the end of july isn't too early. IF you were just having the Oct 2 ny wedding, you would send them out by Aug 2- rsvp, sep 2, so this is just a few days earlier.
