When should we register? and engagement party do/ don't?

I don't don't where to start but I know we should do that soon! I know people want to get us engagement presents. Secretly, im going to stock up on all those little gifts so I can return them to score a Kitchen Aide standing mixer and a Dyson Ball!
My FH wants an engagement party really bad but I feel guilty asking people for extra gifts. I know not everybody has one. Who had one? who didn't? and why not if you didn't?

We did register and have an engagement party but the registry was mostly for old family friends, our parents friends from work, etc. that weren't coming to the party. We just registered for a few things like picture frames, wine glasses and stuff like that bc i have no idea what i'm doing and thought it was too early to pick out EVERYTHING now. Mostly everyone that came to our engagment party gave us gifts of money which is going to help us A LOT.

IM IN THE SAME BOAT... I DUNNO ABOUT AN E PARTY I WANT ONE BUT AT THE SAME TIME MY FH AND I ARE PAYING FOR THE WEDDING OURSELVES AND THAT $$ CAN GO TOWARD MY WEDDING// I WAS THINKING ABOUT HAVING A DINNER AND INIVITING MY BRIDAL PARTY AND ASKING THEM TO BE IN THE WEDDING THAT NIGHT... I DUNNO YET

im having mine in a few weeks and i didnt register. i felt like it was a waste bc im gonna do that for the shower

I just had my engagement party this saturday. It was my mini wedding i call it. I did it all out in a catering hall about 80 peolpe and had a dj. It was a great time dancing and partying all night. we did not register because it was all family and close friends. We knew they were not going to get us presents and were only going to give us money. I will register for my bridal shower.

we had a small engagement dinner with about 35 people, just close fam and friends. we did not register yet. i dont plan to until about 1 year or so before my 1 year mark
