When should you start looking for a florist?
Approximately how many months before your wedding? I have not even started looking into one and our wedding is in October 2003. Thanks!

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
you have plenty of time. We booked our florist 6 months before the wedding, of course you can do it sooner if you want to get everything done.If you need anything special, like a chuppah (sp?) it pays to look earlier cause some places only have one or two.
Definitely check out Flower Michele - John was one of my favorite vendors to work with.

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
We probably did it a little early, but we reserved the services of our florist this month (my wedding is in September), put down the deposit and we will speak with them about details in May, so it almost didn't even matter. At least I know I've secured them I guess.

I'd say to book it anytime you feel comfortable & ready to do so.Never too early

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
I am not getting married until November and I have my florist booked already. I wanted to get all the big things out of the way first.

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
I'm out of my mind---I am booking mine this week-but that's just because I know what I want and I want to lock in prices and I figure why wait? It's one less decision to make and they are changing their prices as of the new year. I totally am way ahead of the game--but I guess I would recommend booking it like 10 months to a year in advance. IMO I don't think it's one of those crucial vendors such as photographers that book up years in advance!

I booked about 10 months in advance. I agree with enlessluv, I don't think florists book up years in advance like some other vendors. I did it early because I just wanted to get it out of the way.

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
Most florists will do more than one event in one day, so you don't usually have to worry about them being 'booked up.'

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
I wanted to start visiting florists this month. But a few I wanted to see would not take an appt because they wanted to see us closer to the wedding 10 months or less. So I am holding off till January and February. However, a couple were already doing bookings for 2004 so it depends on the florist. I am waiting b/c the three that I would like to see have great reviews from this board. I don't want to book with anyone just to get it over with. Especially since we have some time before the wedding.

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
I suggest seeing a florist a year before the wedding because that way you can see what flowers are in season during the month of your wedding. Since you are getting married next October, that is no longer practical, but its just my suggestion.

We will be making our decisionby Christmas and I have a little less then 6 months. I do not think you need to worry if you have not started looking yet.

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
Fear not for those who feel they are running out of time. I spoke with my florist (Milleridge Inn) in August and told them to hold my date to do my personal flowers in addition to the reception flowers for my Dec 29th wedding. And then I was home over thanksgiving and actually sat down and booked with them. I am planning from out of town so I am not necessarily doing things according to the books, but I guess you could say I booked my flowers a month before! It's all good. Everything gets done in time!

HI! I am getting married a week after you! I have already started looking! I've gotten a couple of quotes too! I pretty much know who I'm going with... I've just been lazy! I don't think there is a time limit... But I guess you can start looking!

Re: When should you start looking for a florist?
I have less than 7 months, but I'm so overwhelmed with work right now that I am postponing the florist until later. Like everyone said, florists do not book years in advance, plus they can do more than one wedding at a time, so I'm not too worried. Besides, I have no idea what type of centerpieces or bouquets I want. I have 1 1/2 weeks off for Christmas, so I look into florists then.Welcome New Vendors
