When to book florist?

I'm having a short engagement (8 months total -- 7 more to go). My goal for October is to book all of my vendors, but, after I called some florists, they said it doesn't make sense to talk with them until after I know my BM dresses and color scheme. That probably won't be until January.

Is that normal? Has anyone booked a florist w/out knowing their colors?

thanks!

Re: When to book florist?

I think now is the time to visit florists and try to make a decision shortly. Some of the more 'popular' ones book up over a year in advance - it's insane!

As for the colors...that doesn't make any sense b/c you shouldn't have to place your flower order until 2 weeks before your wedding. Personally, I knew the color (black) of my BM's dresses and what color I wanted for flowers...but honestly, you don't need it until you go for a design session.

Good luck!

Re: When to book florist?

I booked my florist back in April, but only picked out my BM gown a couple of weeks ago. My florist suggested as the wedding draws nearer, that we meet to discuss colors, flowers, etc.

Re: When to book florist?

I'd book now. They book up over a year in advance usually. Pick someone you like working with and is talented and creative, then once you decide your colors you can pick the actual flowers.

I used Flower Michele and loved them!

Re: When to book florist?

I too booked without knowing my colors. After I do, I'll meet with her again to discuss flower types and colors that would complement my girls' dresses.

I agree with this. I booked Carmine from Flowers By Emil about a year before my wedding. Carmine is wonderful to work with.

Re: When to book florist?

I called one florist and they told me to call back in a few months...
I ended up booking with someone else... I think you should book as soon as you find a florist you like...
