When to book the HM

When to book the HM

So, I talked to the travel agent Dawn's Honeymoon Specialists through FM on this site. She gave me prices for the Occidental Grand Aruba. I have heard good things about it and FH and I are pretty sure we want to go there. The price seems reasonable but I am not sure if we should book yet. Airfare is not available yet (we are getting married in March but honeymooning in the summer) and I am worried about those prices. I am afraid if I don't book, the prices of the hotel may go up, but what if they go down? Should we wait? Am I overthinking this? How far in advance is everyone else booking their honeymoons? TIA!

We are booking our honeymoon 1.5 months in advance only because that's when his family's plan will be finalized. They are flying in from Europe and we don't want to leave on our honeymoon until we know when they're flying out.

Even if I was 100% sure about the place, I would still wait before booking something for March. Maybe the property will be under construction and you'll change your mind. Although you do run the risk of prices going up.

Can you book the hotel and air separately?

You ALWAYS take a risk of prices going down once you buy something...if it's something you can afford and are willing to pay, then I say book it.

We booked our HM trip to Puerto Vallarta in early May, and 2 days later, Delta announced that they were increasing prices on all their flights. I checked the other day to see how much the plane seats would cost us now, and they're DOUBLE of what we paid in May!

So, more likely than not, things will go up, but not down...book when you find a price you can live with.

The Occidental is an all inclusive.
There are so many great restaurants on the island, are you sure that you want to limit yourself to the Occidental ?

We are leaving for Aruba on August 6th, our second trip there. We booked our trip on January 5th because we waited for Jet Blue to post their airfares. DH and I can't stand flying American.
We still got a sale price for our hotel, they Hyatt.
I was not impressed by the Occidental the first time we stayed there.

Thank you everyone, for your input. We were looking into all-inclusive because we figured it would be more affordable. We are definitely on a budget. I have heard very good things about the Occidental from people on this site and from a friend who stayed there. Do you mind if I ask what you did not like? Thanks!

I am going to Aruba as well for my honeymoon-we were going to stay at the occidental but my travel agent said that some of the reviews weren't that good as far as the resort.

We are staying at the Westin- all inclusive.

Hopefully, those reviews were exaggerated.

Congrats!

I was always told to book the HM about 4 months prior to the wedding. Which that's getting me nervous b/c we aren't going to be able to pay for it at that time! AUGH! I would try booking just the HM and wait to do the AIR... may go down by the time you'll be planning on going....

We booked in March for next May, but haven't bought the airfare yet. You can book early, you'll find a flight . . . . if you're trying to lock in a good price, I say go for it!

We probably won't book until 6-7 months before the wedding
