How far in advance are you all buying your wedding dress?

When to buy wedding dress

It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want a designer gown than you need to begin your search 12-9 months in advance. My Demetrois gown was ordered in October and will be in the bridal salon in July. (I am getting married 11/2/2002)You can also go to David's Bridal and get a dress off-the-rack or within a few weeks. My suggestion is that you begin your search now. You don't want to pay a 'rush' charge or not be able to get the dress that you want.

When to buy wedding dress

I was unsure about a gown, and I've been looking since Sept. My wedding is in June, and during Dec. and Jan. places started to tell me that they would have to add the 'rush' charge in order to have it in time. I wound up finding a dress at a bridal store in Lynbrook a few weeks ago....no rush charge, they said they will have it in May, and we will start fittings! So the moral...it is never too soon to start looking. That is what I was told and it's true. You never know how long it will take you to find the perfect dress!! Good luck!!

Give yourself plenty of time

With something as special as your wedding gown, that you will be very critical over, you want to make sure you have it in plenty of time before the wedding so any alterations can be done properly with as little stress as possible. My gown was ordered in early Dec. 2000 for our wedding this past September, and it didn`t come in until late June. Originally, when the order was taken, I was given the impression it would be in sometime in April from the person who put the order through, but then April came and went, and I was told May from someone else. In May, I spoke with yet another person, a lady who seemed to run things who I came to really trust, and found the order was placed with a shipping date of mid-June, which is why it arrived in late June. When I was told of the shipping date, I was then asked if that was a problem. Luckily it didn`t end up being one, but it could have if it were a few weeks later, as I had to go out of town for several weeks. Try not to cut ordering your gown closer than 9 months, but know if you had to, you could find something in less time. I would suggest you discuss with your shop when the dress would be shipped from the designer. Make sure, in all your planning, you deal with someone you feel comfortable with and who gives you a good feeling, not someone whose answers to your questions leave you wondering or uneasy. Finally, I don`t know how many people acutally do this, but the shop I purchased my gown from was given a wedding date two weeks prior to our real date. I felt comfortable knowing, 'just in case' something came up, I had that extra time. I think a lot of shops will push everything off to the last couple of days, and I just couldn`t stand the thought of not having my dress until those last couple of days. Believe me, it felt good to get it home knowing it was now in my possession.

Give yourself plenty of time....

I agree. Ordered my dress one year from the date of my wedding (May 2001). I was told by the store that it would take 4-6 months. At the 6 month mark, I called and the store told me the manufacturer was telling them it won't be ready until February of this year (2002). I was relieved that it came in last week. But it still took 8 months!!
