When to get wedding gown

My wedding is in October 2004 and I haven't looked at gowns yet. How long before the wedding did you all look at gowns? Has anyone from Oct 2004 looked yet?

I am getting married in Sept 2004 and I bought my dress last month. I figured why wait if I found the right one for me, but you do have plenty of time.

I am getting married in June '04 and I bought my dress at the end of March. You can start looking around to see what styles you like. It is so much fun!!!!

I am getting married next June and ordered my dress last month and it won't be ready until April 2004!! (Thankfully I won't need a lot of alterations, just a hem probably.) You still have some time left, but I would start looking. It took me 5 months to find 'THE dress'

I absolutely fell in love with my dress, so I stopped looking and ordered it about 3 months ago. My wedding is 9/5/04. I think you have plenty of time. it's a decidion you need to feel secure about! NO RUSH!!!!

I am getting married a few weeks after you and I ordered my dress in February just because I found it on a whim! I Couldn't wait to look and I went and found it!

I'm getting married in March and I didn't order my dress until this month, so 7 months before. It will be in in December supposedly.

I am getting married two weeks after you and haven't offically started shopping yet. I popped into a bridal shop yesterday (alone) just to browse. I asked the woman when I should order by and she said no later than the new year. I surely thought I had more time than that. She said to figure that the dress process from ordering to final fitting should take 10 months! I asked when the Fall 2004 line would be out and she said 'you don't have time to wait for that' it comes out mid-February. I had no clue it would all take so long, who knew?

Im 10/23/04

I bought my dress last week.

Im on a tight budget.. i wanted to be able to pay tiny installments over a long period of time to pay off my dress. Plus it's not even going to be in until July!!! SOOO LONG TO WAIT!

I am getting married on November 5, 2004 and I bought my dress in June 2003. I knew it was the dress when I put it on b/c tears came to my eyes.

They recommend at last 1 yr prior to wedding date. So you should be out shopping around now, so your ready to purchase by Oct. Happy hunting!

A good friend of my family worked in a bridal salon for MANY years. She told me that in general you should order your dress 6 months prior. But as everyone says it could take awhile to find THE ONE. Although My MOH bought the first one (after trying on many others)
I am getting married June 26, 2004 and havent even started looking (although I only got engaged a month ago)

PS I am so excited to be an Enthusiast as opposed to a Newbie!!!

I'm a May bride and ordered my dress in mid-July. It takes 3 months to come in and gives me time for alterations. I had a lot of time this summer so I found my dress so I wouldn't be rushing closer to the date. I'd order the dress at least 9 months ahead of time (to allow for mistakes) but some designers take up to a year to get in! Start looking now!

I'm getting married in Sept. 04 and bought my dress on July 20th! I don't think it's too early for you to start looking. (Plus, dress shopping is SO much fun - go for it!) Somtimes, a dress can take a number of months to come in.
