I am getting married in March 09 and I am seeing that sooo many of you have dresses already ;-( am i behind? I wasn't going to order mine until like march of 08.. I am trying to lose 10 lbs before dress shopping.... this is still enough time right????

I am getting married in November '09 and I want to start looking like a year and a half early...not because I have to, but because I can't wait!!! I hope to not order my dress until about 1 year to 9 months in advance though.

I'm getting married a week after you and I'm not going to start looking until after the new year. I don't want to buy it too early b/c I know I will second guess my decision.

Hey Girl,
I went early on to try some on just for fun. It was good because it gave me a sense of what style I wanted and what I looked best in. You may want to do that first. However you may find your dream dress now. It can always be taken in. DOn't order it smaller even though you plan on being smaller than what you are now, as it is very expensive, and sometimes impossible to let a dress out.
I just purchased my dress like two weeks ago. I just happened to come across it in a magazine, and fell in love. I was literally my dream dress, so I jumped and went to the designer and tried it on. It was kind of early as I had not planned on buying until I was a year out.
It ended up being a great thing buying so early, because it gives me more time to pay the balance, and it just so happens that the gown is going to take just about a year to be made.

hahahah i know that's going to happen to me... once I start shopping it won't be long before I GET ONe.. that's why i want to give myself sometime to lose a few lbs before I go

I wouldn't get it too soon if i were you. I waited till about 10 months before my wedding to order. LI weddings time line says to do it a year in advance. I think ordering it sooner then that is just asking you to find something you like better later...

You are NOT behind...I personally think it is too early to get the dress....I am going to start looking in October (a year before my wedding).... anything sooner for me would not be good...I just worry that I would see something else I liked or just changing my mind...plus I have no where to keep it and I know bridal salons do not hold on to it for long. You have plenty of time!!!!

From my experience over the past few months...
If you are having your dress custom-made, then order it with about 12-14 months to spare.
If you are ordering a dress and having minor work done on it (additions such as crystals, pearls, etc...) then give yourself at least 12 months.
If you are ordering a gown that will just be sent in your size and that you will need regular alterations for (length, bust area), then give yourself at least 8-10 months.
You should always factor in the possibility of late shipment, as well as a span of a month-two months for alteration needs.

well first think about the fact if you get your dress in alot earlier what you would do with it...some stores hold it for you but others you would have to take it home and if you don't keep it in great condition then it can start turning yellow.
I bought my dress in march of this year and not getting it until march of 08. Then i have two months until my wedding but i'll get alterations so the dress will be in the store and i'll pick up a few days before my wedding.
Depending on the designer though it can either come pretty quick or take a while...some take 6-8 months others 8-10 and some 1 year

I think if you want to start looking now that is fine, dont commit until you are 100 percent sure. Your wedding is in the beginning of 09 so its not THAT early. I just started looking and my wedding is in early April. I prob wont order until end of feb or march. Everyone is different. Once you buy a dress (if youve tried on enough) you wont regret it.
