When to Register?

Hey Ladies-

My fiance` and I are having an engagement party for our close family and some people were asking if we had our registry set up yet.

Should we be registering before the engagement party so they have something to buy us? I am nervous if we do this they will buy a lot of things that could be bought for a shower instead. I just assumed that they would write a check or try to buy us something thoughtful, but I also realize that 'something thoughtful' could be something we don't want.

Are any of you registering before your engagement party? Other thoughts?

Thanks for your help as always :)

When to Register?

hi, i didnt have an engagement party but i would suggest to you that you put a few things on your registry now so your guests have some options and then after your eng. party add the rest of the stuff onto your registry so when it comes time for your shower your guests will still have a lot of options. hope this helps :)

When to Register?

We didn't do a registry before our Engagement Party and most people just gave us monetary gifts which paid for some of our down payments with vendors.

When to Register?

'13er crashing! I received two gifts that were questionable in taste so FH and I immediately set up a registry with some basics for the engagement party which was over a year out from our wedding! We couldn't have made a better choice...so happy we did.

When to Register?

We registered right after getting engaged in September. We got a lot of stuff for christmas from our parents. We didn't send the card in with our e-party invites, but people found the registry anyway =P. I don't think there is ever a right time to do it, but just make sure you keep it up to date!

When to Register?

We didn't register for our E-party b/c we were looking forward to the moentary gifts to help pay for down payments for vendors. I went to one shower where the bride registerd for her E-party and when it came time to open gifts at her shower, people got her a bunch of junk b/c most of her registry was empty. If you do register for your E-Party, I suggest going back after and adding more stuff to it, so people have a lot of choices on what to buy you.

When to Register?

We would LOVE monetary gifts... I just think that some people would rather buy us someTHING and it makes me nervous what that might be. Has anyone set up a honeymoon registry? I was looking at honeyfund.com and wondered if that could be an idea for our engagement party. Thoughts?

When to Register?

My mom told us to make a small registry of things we knew we would need regardless of where we lived like silverware, everyday dishes and pots and pans. I didn't want to, but she said that some people will insist on giving a tangible gift and you'd prefer it be something you want.

When to Register?

We registered for certain things! We need EVERYTHING. As much as I would prefer money we will wind up buying these things in the long run. I didn't want stuff I didn't register for and I will add for my shower which is next year. HTH

When to Register?

I registered for some gifts for my e-party, figuring if people want to give us actual gifts instead of cash, at least we'd be getting things that we will actually use. It worked out really well. We're still (our e-party was in September) getting a gift here and there from friends of our parents who are just finding out about our engagement. When it gets closer to my bridal shower, I'll register for more.

I went into Bed Bath & Beyond to register for our January 2014 wedding (shower will prob be in October)... they told me to wait for mid-May because between now and then a lot of items will be discontinued and all of the new stuff will be out =)

They told me the same thing! Said to come back in July for a December wedding. The woman actually seemed annoyed that we wanted to do it a year before. We didn't have an engagement party, but I would highly recommend registering beforehand. I agree that a lot of people will want to give a physical gift so that might as well be something you need. We've actually gotten a bunch of engagement gifts sans party.

When to Register?

If you don't want to register for engagements gifts then I wouldn't and those people who really want to give you gifts will opt for $ or gift cards/something special. I would just tell them I wasn't ready to register!
