I haven't even CONSIDERED my invitation yet.. My date is 11.9 - and a lot of pople will have to make hotel reservations. Also, we are having a brunch at the Hilton the next day. Here are my questions!
1. When should I send them? 2. Where in the invite do I mention the brunch? 3. When should the RSVP date be by? 4. Where do I put hotel info? 4. And WHAT actually goes in there? Sorry guys - I am really behind on information on this....I know the invite, inner envelope, reception card, map cards, reply cards...anything else?

Re: When to send
OK, this is what was told to me by Have you heard? (Can't say enough about them!!)
*They should be sent out 8 to 10 weeks before the date.
* your response should be due about 4 weeks before the date
* Hotel info not to be sent with invitation
*there also is a reception card that goes in too.
It takes a few weeks to get the invites in. See Have you heard? in Bellmore, if you haven't ordered invites yet. They are the best! Good luck!

Re: When to send (long)
I am 11-2. Don't worry. You are okay on time still. Start to consider what type of invite you want, your budget and then research online all over the place. Also some girls use the local places to purchase them. You also need to consider if you want to use the computer to address your envelopes or a calligrapher. I highly recommend www.bloomingquill.com as a calligrapher. She is actually designing my calligraphy invites plus doing the envelopes for me. Terrific women and great prices. If you need some other recommendations I have a bunch. Did you do a room block at the hotel yet? If so, consider sending STD cards and include the hotel info. The hotel should give you cards to include in your STD cards and invites. Next- are you paying for the brunch for everyone? If yes, then you should include a reception card size invite to the brunch with your invite. on your RSVP card you should include a line ___will attend brunch or something like that. So you have an idea of who will attend. If you are not paying, then I would not include information as part of your formal invite. Instead write up a nice guest newsletter and send it to your guest. Let them know about the brunch that is offered. That is what I am doing- actually I am putting the letter in the guest welcome bags. You will need- an invite, reception card (if your reception is different than your ceremony location. some girls put everything on one card), RSVP, directions to all locations. Let me know if I can be of any help. Invitations took me a long time to decide. www.weddingchannel.com has one of the best threads about invites going.

Re: When to send (long)
My wedding is October 26. I just got my invites this week. It took less than 2 weeks from time to place me order til I picked them up. (I just wanted to get it off my list). I put September 30 as the rsvp date and plan on mailing them about 4 weeks before that.
I am including hotel info in my invite. It may not be the 'formal' way of doing it, but I always hate when the invitation doesn't include that info and I have to find a hotel on my own. Plus I blocked off rooms at a much cheaper rate and I want my guests to know about it. Figured all it is another direction card with a rate on it.

Bridetobe: Which hotel did you block rooms at? I need to do that and my reception is also at the NRC. Thanks!

Re: When to send
I am 11-9 as well. We are not sending out our invites until the 3rd week in Aug and the RSVP date is 10-9. The invites only took 10 days to recieve once order and we are getting them addressed with laser calligraphy (through Favorite things http://www.favoriteinvites.com), which the person will pick the invites up from my parents house and it only takes 24 hours to get them back. So you have a little time .

I didn't know you don't send hotel info w/ invitation. When / How do I send the hotel information?

re: cormican
See I agree! This is awful, but we have SUCH a huge guest list , that I don't really want to send out any kind of STD info! I am secretly hoping some people may have other engagements! I want to send everything in one package. But I also want to do what is 'standard'

Including hotel info...
I have been to a million weddings and have NEVER received an invite that DIDN'T include the hotel information. So, without trying to preach ettiquette, I beg to differ with the standard - perhaps it has changed over the years due to demand. I am certainly including it in mine.
Also, I think you have some time too - but it depends on what type of invite you want (pre-manufactured v. handmade, etc.). Handmade takes longer, for obvious reasons, and being that you send them out a while in advance, if I were you I would do it pretty soon if you're considering that route. I am having mine handmade, and it takes 8 - 10 weeks. But we are still throwing around ideas about font style, so it's taking even longer (although it's worth EVERY minute and I wouldn't change a thing - I have to say mine are going to be awesome!! yes, I'm bragging ). Good luck and let us know what you decide...
