Not sure when you should order, I guess it would depend on how long they take to come in. Invites should go out about 8 weeks before the wedding with a response date of a month before the wedding.
Remember to give yourself time to put the invites together, get them addressed, stamped, taken to the post office, etc.

Re: When to send invites? What are the rules?
My wedding is August 14, and the person who I am buying my invitations from said we could wait until April to order them. We will probably mail them about 8 weeks before the wedding.

My wedding is Sept 18, 2004. I ordered and have already received my invitations. I am mailing them at the end of June because my RSVP date is August 8th.

What is your respnse date? I sent mine out 6 weeks before the response date.

I think you're supposed to send invitations about two months before the wedding date. Then you can ask for RSVPs by one month before the date.

Good question, hey I'm one day after you in August! I was wondering the same thing.

I think it also depends on when the place where you are having your reception requires a final head count.
I am getting married on August 7th and I have to have a final count in on July 19th, which is a little bit more than two weeks prior to the wedding. So if I want to give my guests enough time to rsvp and plan, I need to send out my invitations at the end of May/beginning of July.
