I think it's 6-8 weeks. If it happens to fall on a holiday weekend, I would err more to the 8 weeks.
and how about the RSVP??? I was think of putting 4/27/06 that will give me the weekend to get things ready the hall needs a head cout by the 5/03/06. soo the new ?? is 6-8 weekds from the RSVP or the wedding???

6-8 weeks (do the 8 weeks) from the wedding and put the RSVP one month before the wedding.
So you send the invites out two months before the wedding, and give them one month to get the RSVPs back before the wedding.

We will be doing 10-12 weeks since we are getting married in the Summer...and people go away and stuff
I mailed my invites on 8/1/05 for our 10/28/05 wedding. Our RSVP date was 9/23/05. We were still hunting people down for their responses a week before the wedding. So, I don't believe you can ever send them too soon.
We sent ours out right before the Christmas card rush and it had a direct impact on the delivery of the invites and return of RSVP cards. Be very careful if you are near a holiday.
We're sending invites 8.5 weeks before (we sent save the dates though) and putting the rsvp for 3.5 weeks before (RSVP is June 1 for June 24 wedding). We don't have to give our final head count to the hall until 1 week before.
