I would like to send out save the dates, I am getting married in about 5 months, do you think this is too short of time to send them out? My mother said don't even bother in a few months you will be sending out the invites for the wedding.
Maybe I should just save the money and put it towards invitations. What do you girls think? When did you send out save the dates??

I'm getting married in Oct too and honestly I would save money for the invites. STDs are really only needed if you're marrying on a holiday weekend or if you have alot of out of town relatives who need to plan in advance. :)

i would save the money... i agree with your mom, pretty soon it'll be time to send out the actual invites... i think STDs are meant to be sent out like a year ahead

i'm getting married in June and sent mine out end of november. i would just save the money and put it towards the invites since you'll be sending them out in about 2 months anway.

At this point I would save the money and put it toward the invites or something else. I'm getting married Columbus Day weekend and my STD's went out in January.

I say save your money for invitations. Your invites go out in 3 months anyway. We sent ours a year before our wedding.

Mine is not until April 2008. But FMIL and my mother want to through us an engagement party this summer, so FMIL and I are making STD's ourselves to cut down the cost. If your wedding is not to far away i would save the money. They are pretty expensive from websites. I want to make them for the e-party because i thought it'd be a nice thing for them to take home and to set the mood of the wedding

if you have them ready, go for it....i sent ours out in late january for early july. i sent them out then because it had been about 6 months since the e-party and i wanted to refresh everyone's mind about things.

In my opinion, if you haven't ordered them or made them yet, I woud say forget about teh STDs. I am getting married two weeks before you and we sent them out in the beginning of March. It took a few weeks to get them after we initially ordered, between checking the proof, making some changes, etc. and then printing envelopes and everything so I think it may be more of a hassle now...JMO!!! HTH!!!

If I were you I would reconsider giving out STDs at the engagement party. Your wedding is so far in the future that there may be people that come to the e-party that for one reason or another you no longer want at your wedding. However, once you have given out that STD you are required to invite the recipient. (I only mention this b/c another bride is having that problem right now and is freaking out about it).
