Dumb Q...but hey how ofter do I have to worry about cake timing...
I am having a sit down dinner which includes dessert....would like to cut the cake at some stage before dinner or between courses so the pics are done...but just wondering when people should actually be served the cake...
If I serve it at dinner no one will eat it as they will have had dessert then if I wait say an hour some people may not eat it then either as hopefully they will be on the dance floor...
What are you guys doing?
TIA

Re: When to serve Wedding Cake?
IMO, the cake cutting ceremony is perfect right before serving the cake, because it forces everyone off the dance floor and to their seats to be served coffe and cake.

So you think hold off on cutting the cake until how long after dinner?

Re: When to serve Wedding Cake?
I heard that most people don't even eat the cake at a wedding, they are stuffed by then.

Re: When to serve Wedding Cake?
I know thats what I think too....and its such a waste of money....seems like I am spending a couple of hundred bucks just to have a pic of cutting the cake....and my cake is cheap compared to most brides...

Re: When to serve Wedding Cake?
Our hall is plannin out everything for us - they are the pros. We'll prolly cut our cake after dinner as the other girls noted, and right before eating the cake so we have everyone's attention.

You don't want to cut your cake too early because that is often a sign that the reception will be ending soon.

Good to know....maybe I will hold off on the cake and then at least people might have the munchies and actually eat it!!

Careful and don't wait too long as some of the 'elderly' guests may start to leave. I'm sure your site will handle it all nicely!

Re: When to serve Wedding Cake?
I saw Sylvia Weinstock speak last week and she said she thinks people should cut the cake BEFORE dinner. That way it is around the time of all the other traditional things and it helps make certain the people don't take the cake cutting as a cue to get ready to leave. Then everything is out of the way for the partying to come. I thought that made sense. I can't remember when she said to eat it though...I think at the end of dinner.
