My wedding isn't until May 2009 but i really want to get started on some of the DIY stuff. Is it too early to do this. Also I want everything to be uniform. How long before do you go to pick out invitations? TYIA Lauren

never to early!!!! i would wait a little longer on the invites to make sure times and stuff dont change though.......i'm gettin married in June 09 and i've already started my:
1. ribbon wands 2. pomander balls for the FGs 3. BM gifts 4. Other small decor items
I bought a huge rubbermaid and store all my wedding stuff in it to keep it together, organized and clean

Re: When to start DIY???
its never to early to start. I did my slipper baskets and invites probably 7 months in advance. its good to get things out of the way, just make sure u have a good place to store things.

Start doing some of it now! You dont want to be overwhelmed later and if you do something now and you dont like you have time to change it!

It's never too early. Start while the ideas are fresh in your head!

Re: When to start DIY???
In most cases its never too early to get a start on DIY projects. You want to give yourself as much time as you need. I dont want to be one of those brides who are scrambling around doing these DIY things weeks before the wedding. I'm sure I'll have plenty of other last minute stuff to tend to.
My OOT Boxes I'll probably wait on until a month or two before. I'm in the process of my cardbox and that I'm taking my time with. Invites we'll probably order next. I dont mind them sitting in a box. As long as they are completed and ready to be sent I can relax.

Re: When to start DIY???
i got 2 big rolling totes to store everything in. I told myself that if they are full there will be no more DIY or wedding stuff since we have to cart everything down to LI from Buffalo with us my daughter and our dog posibly the cat too
This is going to me one fullllllllll car. I might ship the non breakable stuff to my parents house a few weeks before to save some space in the car.
To answer your question it is never too early to start just make sure you have designated area to store stuff so your house isn't over run with everything.

It's good to do a little at a time... one project at a time... g'ahead- get started, have a ball!

It's never too early, do alittle at a time if you want, that way when its closer to the wedding you wont be stressed trying to get everything done.

Re: When to start DIY???
you could always design things now and have them ready....
as for matching, we ordered our invites, but I loved the fonts so much that I tracked them down online (quite an ordeal) and have used them for menus, programs, table numbers, favors, signature drinks, napkins, you name it.
Also, some things may need to wait until shortly before the wedding (like table numbers) but I did the formatting and layout.... then when our RSVPs came in I typed in all of the names... and finally when our tables were done I only needed to enter in the numbers. saved me a lot of time close to the wedding.
I also had our program layout and menus substantially done months in advance. they are at the printer now
you dont want to do some things too far in advance because of storage and dust issues. i put together our bathroom baskets months ago and had to cover them in plastic bags so hopefully they dont get dusty
