When you and a group goes out to eat how do you split the bill?
So last night 10 girl went out for bachorlette party and we all agreed to pay for the bride so the bill comes and we add tip and split it by 9. It equals 35 each so i count the money and we're shorrt so i say who didnt put in and three people who were there ( all sisters) start itemizing the bill. Well i only had this and she had dessert and blah blah blah... Ok i agree if one person had a soda and didnt eat or if a few people had a bottle of wine and the other ones didnt but this was pretty much a few dollars we are talking. Anyway it annoyed me!
Then we go to a comedy club which is a 2 drink minimum and the bill comes and again they are upset that we splity it evenly but its a 2 drink minimum so they charge you anyway no? Shouldnt that be down the middle?
I ended up putting the extra money which is not a big deal ( its a close freind of moine) but still its teh principlel!!!!

thats one of the biggest pains when you go out with a group of girls lol. im always the one that puts in the extra money.

OK those girls are cheap beyatches. When you go out for a bach party, its pretty common knowledge that the bill is split evenly. I hope you made them PAY!

We split it up evenly, but I always feel that the person who orders more should throw a bit more in-but I never say anything!

I think it should be split evenly (especially for batch party). Sometimes when we go out just with 1 or 2 more couples we get seperate checks (especially our best firends cause the BF drinks a lot) but otherwise we usually split everything down the middle.

we splint right down the middle... EVEN! Sometimes we might drink more, or the other couples will drink more, but we still keep it even. There is always that 'one' how trys to jip the bill. Drives me crazy!!! For example, today we are taking my mom out for her Bday. So there will be 9 of us, but spliting evenly 8 ways! That 'one' will be there, but I always call him on it....

My friends REFUSE to split it evenly. Or let me rephrase that, JT's friends REFUSE to split it evenly. They will nickel and dime you down to the last second of dinner. I HATE THIS. It happened last night. We had dinner at a Greek place, and we were will two of JT's friends, and the bill was really cheap, like 55 bucks, and we all pretty much ate the same amount of food and they STILL would not split it evenly, AND it was JT and I who would have been paying more had we split it even. It just annoys me. I mean, it's give and take. It's not like we don't go out to eat with these people all the time, I mean, in the end, it always evens out, imo. So annoying! This happened at our engagement dinner that our friends took us out for. We went to a family style restaurant and ordered a whole bunch of dishes for everyone to eat, and when the bill came, they said, 'Oh, we all want to pay for you two.' So they split it 10 ways instead of 12, and my sister was collecting the money, and one of JT's friends FREAKED OUT because he only ate from one of the dishes and why should he have to pay more than 6.95 because that was half of what that dish cost. My sister was cursing him out and drama ensued. needless to say, we don't hang out with him anymore. Sorry so long!

I totally agree! I hate when people itemize, it is so petty. We always just split it evenly.

i always split but sometimes when its two people and one ordered a salad and the other ordered wine and an appatizer and an entree then i suggest a split by order.

I think it should be split evenly, but I have one friend who will always pipe in, 'But I only had a coke and everyone else had two glasses of wine.' I see her point, but for the $4 that it's going to cost her, I don't think it's worth the trouble of complaining!

totally depends on the situation...
if it's a party, usually in advance we will state the 'expected' amount of contribution. if it turns out we overestimated we will then just ask for a buck or two less from everyone. if we underestimated, the organizer (and others if they know) will chip in for the difference.
all other get togethers we play by ear. i have no problem splitting bills evenly, but at the same time i respect others who don't want to pay $20 for a coke...

That gets to be so annoying! When it's something like a bachelorette party, it certainly should be split evenly. I have issues when my friends go out to dinner and sit there itemizing the bill..granted, a lot of us are still poor students, but a couple of dollars either way isn't going to kill anyone!

I recently went out to for dinner for my fi grandfathers b-day. place was pretty resonably priced so we figured it would be about $35-40 a couple. you know, for drinks, apptizers and entree. so we paid $40 for both of us...which i even thought was too much to leave considering i had ravoili and fi had something simialiary priced. so a few days later, come to find out, it was $80 f'n dollars a couple. how on earth was it $40 for a plate of ravoli!!! I agree that if 2 couples go out to eat and the bill is $60, $30 a couple plus tip is perfectly acceptable regardless of what everyone eats. my fi's fam are pigs and have to order everything on the menu. 3 apptizers, a huge meal and drinks. sorry for the vent but it really bothered me. that is the first and last time I go out with Fi fam for dinner

Me and my friends always just split the bill evenly. Let me tell you my friends birthday the same thing happened and I told my friends never never and I mean never will I go anywhere with the girl that had problem spitting the bill evenly again.
People like that need to go out alone!!

To clarify...I am not a cheapskate...I really don't mind splitting a bill down the middle with another couple, reagrdless of who ate what....but to me, $80 a couple was way too much money. But again, its what i should expect from fi's fam. they all want to go out to eat but no one wants to pay. it just gets me sooooooo mad!!!!!!!!!
