When you cook- do you share????

When you cook- do you share????

Hi.

I post this out of frustration and confusion.

I may have mentioned this before, but I have a friend who whenever I compliment her on her meals and ask her how she made something, she will not completely tell me.

I.e, she made a wonderful chicken this weekend ,so I ask her what she seasoned it with- she was like the 'usual', I asked her what does that mean, she goes whatever you season your meat with. What's up with that?

Do any of you do this and if so why? What is the big deal?

It is so funny- I come on this site and wonderful women like Latina511 ALWAYS give me recipes.

AAAHH!!!

I have no clue why someone would do that! Just strange!

Yes, I am always willing to share my recipes with people. That is very strange of your friend.

I share recipes but then I don't have any special family recipes with secret ingredients.

I am always flattered when someone enjoys something so much they want the recipe. Of course in my family that just means I always have to make that dish

In your situation, I wouldn't even bother to ask her any more. Just say 'Thank you for a delicious meal' and not aggraevate myself with it.

I hate when people are so secretive like that.
My SIL will say things to me like ' We're going even though I did have to take care of something that day but I'll have to make other arrangements.' She'll also say to me when she's on the phone and another call clicks in 'Oh, I have to take this other call.'
Like its a big secret! Whatever!!!!

I always share and I find it a compliment when someone asks. : ).

Maybe your friend really doesn't cook the things she says so she has no idea on what the recipes are. I had a friend that always ordered in and reheated when we went over for dinner and always pretended she cooked. We all knew better though lol.

I always share my recipes

But I do have a few family recipes that both my great grandmothers gave me and I will never share those. Those are my treasured recipes.

LOL

I can't help but think she could be embarassed. Using something like those all in one seasonings or buying preseasoned meats.

I remember one time I bought this Lemon Chicken breasts from the store. Pre seasons and packaged for me. I got compliments and people asked what I added and I said 'I don't know, Ask Alberston's' (Albertson's was the name of the grocery store).

If she's really just holding out on you, maybe it's a family receipe. My grandmother made some KILLER cinnamon cookies that I can't even describe much less figured out how they were made. She alone passed on the receipe to her grandchildren. I was not one of them. It took YEARS for me to finally get a cousin to tell me and im FAMILY!

Still, I find it unusual. Maybe you can 'help out' one day when she's cooking or just 'keep her company' as she prepares?
hehe

As much as I hate to say this, I think it is more of an ego thing.

She is known as a good cook, and the guys always compliment her, so I guess if she lets me in on her 'secrets'- she won't be the queen bee anymore.

This is not always true for me. I will give you as much as I can but there are some things that I keep to myself. Also if I post a recipe it doesn't mean that I go exactly by that recipe, I change alot of it. Like my sister asked me the other day for my biscotti recipe, I gave it to her but then she says 'they didn't come out like yours', I am like of course I change the recipe as I making it. Really depends on what and who ask me.

Kathy, at least when I ask you- you are not evasive and you have always told me that you change up your recipes.

All the more reason not to make a big deal about her recipes

I like Karen's suggestion that the food is store bought I always share recipes, even the family recipes. It never occurred to me to keep something like that a secret. My hope is always that the person I give the recipe to makes it for me!

No one ever wants my recipes...I am not a good cook.

I'll always share my recipes. BUT...there are one or two Christmas cookie recipes that are kind of 'family secrets' and I don't share those.
