When you go to other people's weddings do you tend to ...
always criticize somethinng?
I try not to, but in the last year I have been to some doozies:
1. Went to one in the basement of a church that served their drinks out of an orange cooler
2. Went to a wedding where there were 275 ppl and no seating cards- also cake was their favor (a small piece mind you) and they gave out one per family-***????
3. Went to a wedding on a cruise ship and the bride and groom did not want to pay for a reception so instead they provided us with cake and a champagne toast. I felt that was cheap.
FH says that I criticize ppl's weddings too much and it is going to come back to haunt me.
I think these are major things. I may not be having the best wedding in town, but I am going to do my best!!!!11

This post gave me a good laugh! I guess people do what they can afford.
You have been noticing more cause you are planning your own wedding.
Your wedding will be beautiful!

Thanks Jenn.
I understand ppl cannot afford certain things, I am one of those ppl but at the very least I believe my guests should be taken care of properly.

Things definately stand out more when you are planning you own wedding. Like the paper napkins and plastic chairs at the wedding one of my friendsh.
Re: When you go to other people's weddings do you tend to ...
It depends how well I like the people...
If they are very close...I don't notice anything...I just have a good time
If they are not...well then I may nitpick abit...but it has come back to nip me in the butt...

I never did, but I haven't been to a wedding since I've gotten engaged. I'm sure that now I will notice every little detail.

I went to a wedding this year and I HATE when they leave those god awful metal table #'s holders on the table.
They usually take them off , but not at this one.
I also notice the flowers.

Re: When you go to other people's weddings do you tend to ...
we just went to a very strange wedding (out of town so not the 'ny type' we were used to) but it was held in a senior center and then they did the honeymoon dance where you had to put your $ in a basket for the bride and groom and then you could dance with them......
i think now that we are planning we definitely pay more attention to details at a wedding but i try not to be so critical ('cuz i know someone will do it to me probably!!)

I guess I will try not to be so critical, because I KNOW people will do it to me.

What I have come to notice more, is any special thing that they have done. I pay attention to the details not so much to criticize but to see what others are doing.
Instead of taking pix of the bride and groom, now I find myself taking pix of details When I was planning my wedding, I kept asking others who were attending weddings to take pix of details. I guess being in the planning stages you are a bit more critical.

I try not to. Everyone is always saying, 'It's your day, do what you want' , so I assume that's what the bride wanted. Everyone's taste is different. I definitely notice details more now though.

i dont think you should feel bad .. it's natural to be critical about things that mean a lot to you. and obviously weddings mean a lot to us hehe. i always pay attention to every detail now (that i know i didn't 2 years ago.) and ppl will do the same at mine. oh well, as long as the bride has a great day its ok

Hey girlie, don;t you dare feel bad. I do the same thing sometimes, it depends for me, if I am having a good time, then I notice all the good things, and don't center on anything negative.
HOWEVER, if the music or food is bad, then all of a sudden, I start noticing every other thing that is just not right. Ha ha

Re: When you go to other people's weddings do you tend to ...
I went to a wedding where the food was aweful (probably worse then hospital food) and the music was beyong terrible.
The wedding was just really bad and I criticized everything (the brides dress the table linens, the hall, its location, etc...)
IF the wedding is bad I will rip apart everything, but if the wedding is great I will usually notice the little things or the special things (my friend's wedding her parents are divorced and her mom passed away so she did the father/daughter dance and she did a special dance with her step dad and her cousin sang to them. Because it was so special I even remember the song that was sung to them)
I try not to criticize because I know my wedding others are going to do it to me

I definitely notice things that I like and don't like. That's perfectly natural. We're all planning our own weddings. If there is sonething I don't particularly like, I just plan to do it differently. There is no reason to feel bad. We all have different tastes. The world would be a very boring place if we all were exactly the same.

I don't see myself making comments but I do ask TONS OF QUESTIONS!!!! Where did you get this? that? Who did you go to in terms of photo/video, florist... I think I bite the bride's ear off!!

Re: When you go to other people's weddings do you tend to ...
I find that since I've been researching weddings/bands, etc...I definately critique other weddings!
But I also did the same when I waitressed...now I go into a restaurant, and I really pay attention to the service...it's not intentional, but because I did it, I know what's correct and what isn't.
Same thing with bartending...same thing with all the other jobs I've had.
The details are now brought to our attention because of our involvement.
