when you hand cancel

they are just putting their post mark over the stamp, right? so should i buy all the stamps and put them on the invite before i bring them into the post office? sorry dumb question

Yes. Bring the invites with the proper postage already affixed to the envelopes when you go.

I bought the stamps and put the stamps on while in the post office. Then they let me watch while they hand canceled them.

I only had 100 invites though.

I had done the stamps in advance since I bought them together for the RSVP card and outer envelope. I watched them do about 110 and yes, they go over the stamp.

I don't know if it sped up the process but I did this at 8pm in LI and people in Queens got them the next day!
