When you made an offer on your house....

We offered 13,900 less but settled on 8,900 less. We were also in the market for a house under 400,000 which I hear is a more popular price range so the houses go quickly.

we offered $19K less, and closed at $14K less...

$15k less, which was accepted.

However, we are buying in Putnam, and I think the market there is not as competitive as LI.

Well over the asking price (multiple offer situation).

I just put a bid on a house yesterday for $20 less and they accepted us at $18 less.
Today we are going for an inspection.

We offered $20,000 less than the just-reduced price. We agreed to buy it for $5,000 less. I didn't mind as we had gone to full price on everything else we bid on.

I didn't vote b/c none applied to us...We paid listing price.

We paid listing price (6 other bidders were with us) but got $3,000 knocked off when it was realized that the Real Estate agent at the open house told us the house just got a new roof (she meant new windows) and our house actually needed a new roof within 5 years. And the owners got us an estimate too.

the house was underpriced, in a great area and there were multiple offers. we won by $500 - scary! anyway, it was tough bidding over the price, but we wanted the house so we bid above to guarantee we got it

Same here, we paid over asking and there were multiple offers, but the house was well worth the price (relative to the other houses we have seen). The same house around the block has sold for $60K more recently.
