Help! I recently got engaged and have just begun the search for the perfect reception hall. We are looking to get married in 2011. I have looked at several places and so far have not been wowed by anything. Can anyone give me any recent reviews on the following places? Food? Decor?

Congrats and welcome to the site!
Right up at the top of the page there is a SEARCH feature and you can type in those halls individualy and it will bring up all recent post with their names in in. Or, in the WEDDING FORUMS page there is a board called BRIDES REVEIW and you can look through for any completed review from past brides on this site.

hey we checked out marina del rey when we were on the search for hallls.. i think its really nice but i dont know much about it.... you should check out the surf club

Definitely check out the Garden City Hotel.
I'm having my wedding there so let me know if you want any info.
You should also try to figure out the type of hall you want - hotel, catering hall, country club, beach theme, etc.

I would also look at the Inn at New Hyde Park, it is gorgeous

I got married at Terrace on the Park and loved it! Check out my review!
I heard Rainbow Room isnt doing wedding anymore as of very recently.

I haven't been to any of the ones you mentioned and not sure what you are looking for or what your budget is (by the water, beautiful gardens, etc) but definitely check out Land's End and Flowerfield (same caterers, Lovin Oven-yummy food!!)-FF has beautiful grounds and gorgeous ballroom, and LE also has a beautiful ballroom and it's on the water....

N. Ritz Club Carlyle on the Green :) Glenn Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle VIP Club in New Rochelle The Woodlands umm.. yeah
i guess it depends on what your budget is. Out of the one's i gave you N.Rtiz, VIP, and Glenn Island are about the same price. The other 2 are more $

Out of the choices you posted ive been to: Terrace on the Park, Marina Del Rey and Leonards. Terrace on the park i had my prom there and a lon time ago so dont remember the food, i dont even know if i ate much lol but i remember the room was beautiful and loved the tall windows all around the place and the vew
Marina del rey-went to a wedding last year, amazing CH, food was all delicious and gorgeous room with also an amazing view.
Leonards-ive been to several events, theres a couple of rooms so not sure which room you would be looking at.
Also not sure what your budget is but rainbow room and roosevelt hotel are both quite a bit above the others so not sure if its something to consider.

It takes time but don't get discouraged. At one point I was ready to give up, and don't settle for anything until you get 'That Feeling' and you'll know when you found the right one. I think I looked at about 12 places. Check out the watermill it's beautiful!!

I think most RHs are beuatiful it depends on your taste you have to go see them.
Just some advice Becareful not to offend anyone with a topic like this. It can get ugly. Remeber even if you don't like a place other brides might be getting married there and none of us want to hurt others feelings.

I only wanted a waterfront, outdoor wedding. My favorites were: Thatched Cottage Lands End Crescent Beach Club
They all have a different feel to them, just keep looking - you'll know when you've found it. Good luck!

Wow this is prob the most different list of reception halls I have ever seen!
Terrace on the Park-the view is amazing, they have some reviews on yelp about the food
Marina Del Rey-the view is amazing as well, right on the water and they redid the entire place. I have never heard anything bad about the food.
The Roosevelt Hotel and Rainbow Room, both are super expensive and I think I also heard that Rainbow Room no longer does food but only drinks bc of the recession.
Leonard's La Dolce Vita is very big and each room is completely different. If I had to choose a room to get married in it would be the one in the basement.

The only reason why I didn't go and visit the NHP Inn is because I grew up in Floral Park, walking distance from the Inn. I saw it grow from an okay catering hall (where I had BOTH of my senior dinners and mom had countless PTA installation dinners) to this monster of a place.
Fox Hollow is AMAZING. . .gorgeous grounds. I can't wait to get married to my BFF/FH there!!!!
Of course, all of us are going to say that our particular hall is pretty. . .lol.

Swan club is gorgeous though a bit on the small side - how many in your party?
I booked with Crest hollow which has 24 acres of gorgeous grounds. It is a larger catering all though and can have up to 3 events at the same time so if you want to be the only bride there at the time, that might not work. They do work hard to keep parties separate from what I've heard (or so I hope!!) The ceremony here can be outside and the area is really pretty - or they have rain locations inside as well - check out their website - they have a nice video under weddings ....then settings...

I had my wedding at the Marina Del Rey and it was amazing...I have some pro pics in my album of the sunset...service, food, ambiance is incredible...my guests still talk about m wedding

I second the Inn @ NHP!!! They just renovated the whole place- Its absolutely beautiful- no detail was spared. There are some pictures in my album if you want to take a look. Check out their website too! Good Luck!
