Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

I'm not on a diet but generally I watch my Carb in take. I try only to eat the light bread and try not to eat carbs after lunch time. Everything has carbs but I mean bread, pasta, etc..I try and only eat non processed whole grains!

Just don't cut out all carbs...Especially if you are working out. You need them for energy!!

I'm about 12 days into atkins. Are you low carbing or following a particular plan?

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

I have a low carb nutritionist. Basically all low-carb follows the principles of Atkins. Any of the carbs my system gets right now is from vegetables and nuts. I do not eat any processes carbs- such as pasta, rice, etc. Also, I do not eat sugar in any way, shape or form... I'm a splenda girl (way better than equal). I've been doing it for about 2 months and have lost 10 lbs.

I've an ex-WW girl- I tried WW about 5 times and I just can't do it. I'm successful for a while, and then it's all over.

Congrats to you!! That's the best way to do it. Processed carbs are not good. That's how I started and I lost weight as well. Now since I'm maintaining I add in light bread and whole wheat pasta on occassion. It's pretty good! I too use Splenda...it's good and you can bake with it too :)

Congrats on the 10#!!!!!

I tried and failed at WW also. I end up obsessing about food because I am always hungry.

I get my carbs from salad and cheese.

Does your nutritionist recemmend some meat over others like chicken and fish vs. red meat?

I have to try splenda but I don't use equal or sweet n low - just what comes in my diet coke. Do you bake with it? I was thinking of trying to make an LC cheesecake since you can have everything else in there (no crust of course )

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

yes you can bake with Splenda.. try looking at www.lowcarbeating.com they have great no-carb cheesecake recipes.

Basically i try not to eat too many foods with nitrates (i.e. bacon & hotdogs) but that's for general health purposes.

My nutritionist says to eat any meat- but old habits die hard so I have a hard time eating too much fat- like red meat all the time...

I also buy low carb products from netrition or my nutrtionsit

You really seem to be on track! Good for you..it's hard to adjust at first but once you get used to it..it's something you can stay with for life. I have been doing it for almost 5yrs now. I have maintained and even slipped up on occasion.
Just don't ever try to low carb pasta...it's SOOOOOO gross! YUCK

Thanks, I'll check out that site.

Are some nuts better then others? besides macadamias (atkins must have mentioned them about 20 times on larry king the other night)

I'm sorry I am picking your brain here I read atkins book a while ago and didnt pay attention to the nuts & seeds part since i dont eat them (DH is trying to find something to snack on)

Yeah, As an Italian I've been warned to not step near the pasta... I did have a slip up on Xmas Eve- but you need to eat pasta that day if you are an Italian.

I'm pretty well adjusted, but I can always use the motivation...

I also have to say that I have not had A BREAK OUT.. no zits nothing.. and I've been on Acne medication for about 8 years. Now I'm not on any medication and no zits.

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

Yes, some nuts are better than others... Cashews (although my favorite) are the worst in terms of carbs. Macadamias are the best, but they are pricey. Also try almonds (smokehouse ones are a great snack) and walnuts. I like to get the kind you can crack yourself. I like anything that has to do w/ a food ritual- meaning picking, cracking, etc.. gives you something to do.

I hate to say it in public, but i eat BBQ Pork Rinds as a snack. I would NEVER EVER EVER try one b/c I thought they were gross- but i was desperate... and they are pretty good.

Oh and one more thing- When i read atkins he didn't say this.. when you are looking @ nutrition guide subtract the # of fiber grams from the carb grams to get the effective carb count in the food...

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

I have a hard time with pork rinds. I can't get past the name. A co-worker cooks with them, he uses them as a coating for chicken cutlets. I miss having crunchy food so I know I'll cave eventually:)

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

I tell you... really I'm a food snob. I love to cook and I am very particular. But I use the rinds as 'breading too'. In the south they are very popular- my FH used to eat them all the time. They taste a little like bacon and are very crispy. They are good.. just pretend you are eating air puffs.

Soy nuts are good too.

I hear ya about the pasta...I'm Italian and I do miss it sooo much. Whole Wheat pasta isn't sooo bad..but the low carb is just plain GROSS.

Low carb bars aren't that bad either..I sometimes eat the Pure Protein if I'm on the go

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

I buy them by the 12 box.. the keto oatmeal raisin tastes like a granola bar.
great for breakfast.
I also eat low carb granola.

Are grains like quinoa and millet considered low carb? What about brown rice?

Re: Where are the low-carb brides???

Whole grains are better for your body than white starches (such as white flour & sugar). I would limit your consumption to maybe one serving in the afternoon?

I have been working with a nutritionist since mid-June. I am on high protien & very low carbs. So far I have lost 30 pounds!
