we are staying in the basement apt in my house for probably 2 years RENT FREE and going to put that money away as if we are paying rent so we have money to put down for a starter house....it is not ideal to be in a basement apt but in the long run it is WELL worth it.....

I want to stay here on the island....FH has some of family in pa and is interested in living there.....his brother and his wife jsut moved down there and they are both making a lot more money and cost of living is still less than here....they live in elizabethtown, his brother travels to the schools in the area for his job (sales) and his SIL works in york......his other sister her husband have been looking for work down there in the education field....they both make good money on the island, but are making the move because of family and they have both been offered fairly decent pay compared to the cost of living being less. ....it depends on where you want to live and where you type of work you do. Their biggest problem with the move is their benefits....they have MUCH better retirement packages here than what the offer in PA. bigger cities/towns like york of harrisburg, hershey....there are plenty of places to live where the cost is not high and the school districts are good, but you may commute for 25-30 ms.....commute there is a straight road and barely any traffic for the most part......i don't want to move because my entire family is li.....his family is all over the country with a portion in pa so we will still have to travel to see his family and mine....YUGH For anyone in the nursing field, you are more likely going to make more money in pa than here.....I have yet to see someone who does not....DRASTIC difference...
We already own a home so we are staying where we are for now
right now we both live in Queens (at home with our parents)and there is a CHANCE we might stay in the neighborhood but we're really leaning towards getting an apartment in the New Hyde Park/Stewart Manor/Garden City area. Guess we'll know for sure once we start apartment shopping!
Queens where we live now....for now anyway....maybe Westchester or Putnam when we save up enough.

Queens, got the first floor of my old house. my father kept it. 3 bedrooms, rent free but have to pay utilities. then we will look for a house once im outta school and fh is promoted. maybe 2 years. hopefully we ddont get too comfortable lol. just went to see it actually on Sunday, needs a little work, but cant wait!!!
hopefully out west - vegas or phoenix.. we have some family there but it will be hard leaving everyone here. LI is just to damn expensive!
FH and I will move into my parents basement so we can save for a house. But my brother and his fiance fixed it so its like and apartment with a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, living room and a little office area. It is so cute. I love it.
We both live with our parents now. We were talking about getting an apt in Queens right before the wedding. However, my Dad is selling our house shortly after we get married. He's putting it on the market in January 09, and will be giving us money from the sale. So I'm trying to convince FH to stay living with my parents for a few months so we can buy a house upstate right away.
After the wedding, I'm moving into the house that FH rents in Mattituck. We'll stay there for a year or so while we save money for a house. We're looking to stay out east...from Riverhead and on the North Fork. FH's entire family live on the North Fork, and my parents just moved to Riverhead.
