We looked for a while in Nassau and ended up in Western Suffolk - Lindenhurst. We both commute to NYC and it will only be 15 min longer on the train from where we are now in Mineola.
Just wanted to give a heads up that there are some great prices in Lindenhurst right now - with nice sized properties too. We got so much more for the dollar by changing our search area.

Re: Where are you looking?
We just bought in Wantagh...FH commutes to NYC everyday via car, so we could not go too far away!

Actually we commute from a station near Mineola and there are no express trains available and almost all trains require a transfer. I was a little off with 10 minutes but not that far off.
We currently take trains to arrive Penn 8:45-9:15 and then leave around 5:45-6:30. The new commute averages about 16 minutes longer in the AM and 11 minutes longer in the PM. Three cheers for express trains. However if we do get stuck late and have to take a local it jumps to over an hour on the train and will add almost 1/2 hour to the current commute.
No transfers is such a perk, we really hate transferring at Jamaica or going to Hunters Point to take the 7.

Re: Where are you looking?
We looked in Islip and East Islip and bought in Islip I commute to NYC every day but I don't mind the commute at all. I certainly didn't want to move any further East though.

Re: Where are you looking?
We're not officially looking yet...cannot even think of affording yet, but we're 'kind of' looking around our current neighboorhood - Franklin Square. Too expensive ...especially for what you get. We would love to go out to Sayville, Oakdale, Idle Hour area, but too long of a commute to our jobs in Lake Success & Garden City Park.
