Save.....What's that? It seems the more and more and try to save, the more and more we spend..I wish I knew where to save.

I am trying to cut back on the things that wont be important later on down the line, like flowers and things that wont last forever. Like you I to am thinking of using the fake centerpieces the hall provides. Alot of the extras.

for every thing we need, i try and cut back, then go over budget....then tell myself I'll cut back on the next thing....
I can't cut back! I want everything to be PERFECT!

with most of our vendors we've stayed pretty close to budget...
but we saved with the invites, flowers got a good price, favors are pretty inexpensive.

hopefully, we will try and save on favors. It's the one thing that i feel is a nice thing to do but really difficult to find something everyone likes and can use. but i will probably go over budget in that area too!

We're going to save with the flowers. I think I can get everything I need for around $1,500. If I got everything I wanted, it would be way more than that. The chuppa that I really want is $1,500 on it's own! Although I want it and it will make for beautiful pictures, it's only going to be in use for a 20 minute ceremony and I just couldn't justify spending that much money. Also, our favors are fairly inexpensive and we've decided to skip limos since the ceremony and reception are at the same place.

Probably won't do favors either... and no limos...

No more clothes shopping for me--anything I spend is for the wedding. Its hard because I love Banana Republic and I have not been in the store for the longest time

I am cutting back on favors. Instead of each person getting one, I'm giving picture frame placecard holders to each invited couple.

Flowers...trying not to go over 1500
invitations...making them myself so they won't be over 60 (without stamps)
my dress...i'm wearing a jessica mcclintock, so that will help.
i am not scrimping on photography or our dj or food...and the officiants are a gift as is the videographer.

We're planning not spend alot on the limos, and the invitations. I have done a ton of research and alot of bargain shopping for everything else. I saved close to $300 on my dress by getting it from Bridesave when they were having 10% off all Maggie gowns, I got my veil and tiara from Patchogue Floral which together was about $200. I'm having people make things if they can, my Grandmother is making our pew bows, my Dad is making our favors.

Keep your eye on these boards....you'll find great bargains from other B2B's!

Everywhere! I set up at a budget at the beginning...each category was a % of the total budget. I think I used the knot.com for this. Then...I just made sure I stuck to it. I skipped limos and video and put that money towards photography because it was important to me. I searched for a florist that could give me everything I needed for what my budget was...I didn't sacrafice what I wanted. So far...so good.

another area i think i can save on is invites....i am definitely NOT going to spend a lot of money on them. I want them simple and elegant.

We're saving money by cutting corners in every single aspect of the wedding:
-Doing own flowers
-Making own invitations
-Buying an ivory bridesmaid gown for me instead of a trad. wedding gown
-Forgoing favors, STDs, place cards, menus, etc.

Granted there will only be about 22 guests so all of this can be easily done. We just don't see the point of spending all of this money for a party since we're trying to save for a house. Call me cheap if you want.
I think I'm being practical.

Re: Where are you trying to save ??

I'm cutting back on flowers as much as possible. Absolutely zero church flowers (FMIL is making beautiful tulle pew bows); no arrangements in unnecessary places (like the bathroom, IMO) and no flowers or corsages for unnecessary people. I cut back on the DJ by not getting any of the extras (intelligent lighting, fog, etc) and we came in under budget for that. Favors will be as inexpensive as possible.... and that's about it. Everything else I've gone over budget on (except photo & video) so I'm not too good at this either!! I blew my gown budget out of the water as well as the HM budget! But, for me, the HM is something that is well worth it. I think I will also cut back on all the little things that keep appearing and adding themselves on to this wedding tab!!!

Re: Where are you trying to save ??

Im saving on flowers and centerpieces, keeping it under $1200. Dress Im buying online and saving about $800. Favors my MOH has offered to pay, Limos we decided to go for a party bus, and honeymoon we decided to use 2 weeks of my parents time share so all we need is airfare and spending money. Oh, and I had my heart set on a catherdral length beaded lace veil. They are a lot of money so Im having it done in my parents native country, Guatemala.
Splurging on my shoes!!
