Where can I get a duvet?

Where can I get a duvet?

Not a duvet cover, just the duvet (insert). And I don't want a down comforter.

I can't find duvets anywhere!!!!

I've never seen one that wasn't down or imitation down. The Company Store has some that are not real down... They call it Primaloft.

Re: Where can I get a duvet?

I am always confused by this but Ithink the duvet is the cover. They are intended to protect down comforters, so that s probabaly why you can't find an insert that is not down. You can use any type of comforter though, butthey will msotly be patterned.
Jsut get a light color, so it won't tshow through your cover.

You may be able to find a faux down comforter, liek the faux down pilows I got a Bed Bath & Beyond.

I have a primaloft from The Company Store ... I think it's noisy like down.

That is the one I was just going to post from BB & B. I found it under comforters/solids
comforter

Ann, is that your objection? That it is noisy?

Is down noisy? Like crinkly?

I think I may just get a summer weight down comforter that I just found at Overstock.com
I hadn't wanted to spend too much money, but $60 for a king comforter isn't that bad!

No, the noiseness isn't why I didn't want down. I actually like that sound
I just didn't want to spend a lot of money on a really good down comforter. I hate when you buy a cheap one and get poked with the quills.
I have a heavy down comforter on the bed right now that's pretty good quality, but the down still manages to escape. I have little feather all over the red comforter cover

The primaloft is no bargin ...

Re: Where can I get a duvet?

I found the BB &B 'dwon alternative' comforter that goes with thr pilloews I have. It isn't a bargain either.
I have been using my down conforter since February & I haven't had any feathers escape.

It was $200 ( Thanks Aunt Laura & Uncle George ) but it was just BB&B 's own brand.

Re: Where can I get a duvet?

I read that the feather escaping has to do with the thread count of the comforter. I guess the one on my bed right now doesn't have a good thread count. But I even bought a comforter protector (like a big pillowcase) and feathers STILL escape

Nope, the duvet is what goes in the duvet cover...

Then how come I never see anything reffered to as a duvet. Ok, so all my knowledge come from the Bed Bath & Beyond website, but the use duvet & duvet cover interchangeably & always say a 'comforter' goes inside.

Face it Ann, those feathers want to be free and there's nothing you can do about it!!

I say wait for a really windy day, go outside, cut it open and release them back into the wild where they are longinh to be ...

Re: Where can I get a duvet?

ok, linenplace.com says this:

What is the difference between a Comforter and a Duvet?

Duvet in French means comforter, so in essence there is no real difference between a comforter and a duvet. The only thing that sets them apart is that some comforters are colored or have patterns on them. These type of comforters are to be used as an individual top of the bed.

How are comforters and duvets used?

As mentioned before some comforters are colored or have patterns on them and are used as individual top of the bed items. However many timed both comforters and duvets are plain white and are to be used as a filling to a duvet cover.

What are comforters and duvets filled with?

The insulation component of comforters and duvets may consist of either a polyester fiber fill, cotton fill or down.

What are the different types of sewing constructions?

* The Sewn Through construction: Two outer layers of fabric are stitched together in a quilted pattern. This construction is best for lightweight down comforters because it keeps the down from shifting, but it does not allow for maximum loft.
* The Baffle Box construction: In the Baffle box construction, boxes with fabric walls keep the feathers in place and allow for maximum loft.

so acording to this, yes, Farah, you are right, BB & Beyond & I are wrong.

And Ann, read the part about baffle box construction. That's what I have, so maybe that's why I don't have loose feathers.

Mine is a 375 tread count.

The baffling keeps the feathers from shifting, but not escaping
It's the thread count of the cover that keeps the feathers in. If the thread count is low, those little suckers can slip through...

Re: Where can I get a duvet?

so what's low for a comforter? Is the same as sheets? I would think the more they shift too, the easier it is for them to fall out, but that is just a guess.

Do you know the thread count on the one on Overstock?

See, that's the thing. I can't find anywhere that says what a low thread count is, but I'm guessing it's the same as sheets.

The one I just found on Overstock is 233 tc.
The duvet cover that I just got is like a light tan color, so even if feathers got out they wouldn't be as noticeable as on a red duvet cover!

Re: Where can I get a duvet?

I think 233 is on the low side. I looked on BB &B & all the ones the lowest they carry is 230 tc. most are 300-400, and then they have a crazy 700 tc one!
