Re: Where can I shop for a dress on a tight budget?
I got mine at David's - in SOME places the service does **** but I wouldn't generalize.....I went to the one in Long Island City.

I would order a really pretty BM dress in white or ivory before I went to Davids. Their reputation is terrible.

Re: Where can I shop for a dress on a tight budget?
I went to David's in Carle Place. Yes, the service was a little lacking, but I bought what I thought was a great dress, for about $575. I went to a seamstress in Garden City though, for the alterations because I had heard stories about bad alterations there (they cost me about $60). They also have a $99 rack sometimes - I fell in LOVE with a 99$ dress, but it was a size too small and I wasn't sure if it could be taken out (they won't do alterations there on the $99 dresses, so I would have had to buy it and see if it could be altered and at that price it was not returnable -) If it was my size, I would have had a wedding dress for $99! If you are also looking for BM dresses, I loved mine and bought them at www.bridesmade.com they were $48 each!

You might want to go looking wherever for a dress. Find one that fits you well and get the style number. Then get a quote from netbride.com I got a quote for my dress, local shop was $680, netbride $377. The draw backs: No returns. and you have to get it altered yourself. Which could cost more then the savings. If you have a good seemstress, also try ebay. I told my FH about the netbride site- he said, if anything is wrong with the dress you have no one to call or walk into. It will prob cost more w/ the alts. Some girls here have used them, do a search. Then it just comes down to how comfy you feel with netbride over the money you are saving.

David's Bridal? I bought mine at Estelle's Dressy Dress in Farmingdale, Suffolk County, LI. There were dresses within my budget beautiful and reasonably priced.

Re: Where can I shop for a dress on a tight budget?
I know many brides here have negative things to say about the Bridal Building in Midtown but I have nothing but praise for Best Bridal salon on the 12th floor - & their prices!
I was gonna get my gown at RK too for $800 (before tax & alteration charges) - cheapest salon price I could find & that was on their no-frills program. If I'd ordered it thru RK the regular way, it would've cost $900 I think.
ANYWAYS I went looking for a seamstress (cuz on no frills RK told me they wouldn't alter I had to take it elsewhere). Best Bridal said they'd match the cheapest price I found - even on the net - as long as I brought in written proof. So I ended up paying $450.00 ($505.76 w/tax) for my gown there. Yes the dress is real (Mon Cheri) & there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Its beautiful I'm just too fat! :) I must admit they robbed me blind for alterations (charged me the max - $250) but I'm getting a decent amount of alterations done - & still saved $50 off RK's no-frills price before tax & alteration charges, so it was all good to me.
Best part - BP also got their Watters & Watters dresses there - saving $100-$150 per dress! & they also the real thing!! So we got internet prices & salon service - can't beat that.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me & good luck! Sorry so long!
ETS: if you do decide on David's ITA the L.I.C. branch is best. If I were gonna do David's I'd go to that location, much nicer staff & organized than Carle Place.

Re: Where can I shop for a dress on a tight budget?
I have to agree with Maysie18 on checking out The Bridal Building. At first i was a little hesitant to go there since no one I know has ever been there or even bought something. However, one of my co-workers had her dress made by a designer there for $1,500. I went there and walked around. All the bridal stuff is located on the 11th & 12th Floor of the building. I finally picked Best Bridal. They had my dress there at such low prices. I paid $850 for my dress and that includes my shoes, veil, money bag, tiara. You can't beat that! The place is nothing like Bridal Reflections in terms of nice digs but hey, if you can find your dress at a cheaper price and the service is good then i think that's the best deal ever.

FYI: I don't know if anyone knows this, but there is a Bridal Garden in Nassau County on Stewart Ave in Bethpage. 3 of my closest friends got their bridesmaids dresses there, and as i was in each wedding, I have to say, the service was EXCELLENT and the seamstress there was AMAZING!

The Wedding Center in Commack. I found 'THE' dress there last weekend. The woman told me to go shop around and the owner can beat any price! They have a ton of dresses already marked down from the MSRP and they're nice.

Try RK. I just ordered my dress there last Saturday and they had a couple of racks of really nice dresses for sale. Good Luck.
