Where did you have your RECEPTION?

Original post by lovestruck23

Hello Brides!
I'm looking for some advice on Reception sites...
Choosing between:
The Thatched Cottage
Majestic Gardens
Windows on the Lake
and The Woodbury Country Club

Any thoughts?
Thank you so much!!!

Re: Where did you have your RECEPTION?

I am getting married and having my reception at Lessing's Tall Grass Country Club. It is beautiful and newish. As soon as me and my fiance' saw it we fell in love.
We also felt that the people there were nice.

Re: Where did you have your RECEPTION?

I looked at Thatched Cottage and thought it looked nice--but the manager had had me come while there was a party in the room where I would have my reception! Why bother coming to see it then?

Anyway, I thought it was beautiful and the food is supposed to be great. The reason I didn't consider it further is because I hated the room I would get married in if we couldn't get married outside. Other than that, wonderful!

I ended up at the Swan Club, which is right up the road. If you're visiting TC, it may be worth the trip to SC.

We did not choose them, but the Thatched Cottage was up there on our favorites.

Thanks so much
I'm not set on that date but we're looking around that time.
I loved the Thatched cottage too.
We will be married in a church so no need to worry about the ceremony in the rain....

What do you think of Hotel receptions?

You mean having a reception at a hotel? I don't know if there are many places that have the space for weddings.

I just had my wedding at the Roslyn Claremont Hotel - their ballroom can hold almost 200 ppl and they did an amazing job. Most hotels have a ballroom. I highly recommend the hotel wedding if you have a lot of OOT family like we did. Gives everyone the chance to be under one roof the night before and the night of. We loved it!

i think a hotel reception is a great idea
they almost all have huge ball rooms
not necessary as nice as other reception halls
hotel ball rooms are usually less fancy- also used for conferences and such
i have been to the hilton
garden city hotel (expensive of course)
marriot should have a nice room

and my best friend got married at three village inn - very nice

its nice when ur guest can stay the night and enjoy drinking

and its nice for u and fh that night to just go to ur room

if i can do things over i would consider a hotel more closely..i never looked into it it was just in my head ...

plus some of them have nice deals ..

good luck ..

we got marreid at watermill and we loved it.

the idea for a hotel wedding is a great one - but just be careful when finalizing your contract. my friend had a hotel wedding and there were hidden fees for EVERYTHING - dressing/undressing the tables, rolling the chairs out, etc. everything she asked for was an 'extra' charge whereas at a reception hall it would be included. just be sure to ask a lot of questions!

My good friend had her wedding at the Thatched Cottage - it was great. We had the whole building to ourselves and the outside area on the water is gorgeous!

My brother had his wedding at Windows on the lake and they did a great job. I got married at Hamlet Willow Creek in Mt.Sinai and it was awsome !!

Majestic Gardens is beautiful. The food is excellent and the staff were friendly. I am currently booked there and they have been very accomadating to all my requests. Also went to a wedding there last year an it was Amazing!

I have been to all of them!!! They all have there nice touches and I havent heard anything bad!! Windows on the lake is beautiful but if you want to get married outside you have to walk across a crazy winding road to get there. I live near there and its dangerous.

Read my review about the thatched cottage...I got a great price for everything we got and everything went perfectly. The owner is the one cooking your food and he takes pride in it!!! NO WORRIES there. They renovated the entire place and it looks so romantic!

Re: Where did you have your RECEPTION?

The Thatched Cottage is the most inexpensive place around. We had our wedding booked there but unfortunately my Brother is getting deployed to Iraq so we had to change venues and postpone the wedding.
So here's the kicker- A great date is now up for grabs! July 4th 2008- it's an opening for a day wedding and it's comes with a discounted price!

P.S. The Thatched Cottage has a gorgeous Gazebo for holding your ceremony which is nestled right on the beautiful Northport Harbor. Imagine the warm July sun and swans swimming by in the harbor! As an added bonus- Northport is the cutest most picturesque town to drive through so your guests will enjoy the sights on their way to your wedding. Breathtaking gardens during the summer and the main ballroom has a full wall of windows so you can enjoy the view even from the inside. Haggle with them for $65 pp if you are interested in July 4th- it's a Friday!

You can probably get away with a guarantee of only 100

I love the thatched cottage, but it isn't the most inexpensive place around!
Of all the places I looked at it was in the middle range, but it definitely is affordable.
I'd say check out all the places on your list, and make up your own mind!
I looked at:
Thatched Cottage
Swan Club
Riviera
Venetian Yacht Club
Chateu La Mer

All on the water, all beautiful in their own ways. I chose Thatched because it was one wedding at a time, and because I loved the outside and the inside. Then I went to a tasting, and it was phenomenal.

I don't think you can go wrong, they are all great places.
