I am just starting out looking for a home and don't have a clue on what to start with first.. I have been looking around, but if someone could explain to me the process and what steps I need to take now, that will be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to have something by March 2006, that's when my lease on my rental is up. TIA!!! very confused..

Find a broker or agent. I recommend Someone that was either recommended by a friend or someone that you know has good knowledge of the area you like
Speak to mortgage specialist/broker to Obtain Pre-Approval and find out how much you can actually afford! The real estate person can help you with some names.
View Properties online and in person with your broker.
Submit Offers
Negotiation of Offer/Acceptance and signing of Binder
Get home ispected
Obtain Legal Representation
Draw up a contract/Contract Acceptance by both parties
Final Mortgage Approval
Get Insurance
Pre-Closing Walk Through
Closing

If we stay out in NYC, then the Rosedale, Laurelton Queens area or Elmont, LI.. But we are also strongly thinking about moving to Charlotte, NC....

start slow....see if there are any Open Houses you are interested in going to. We didn't go to any Open Houses. We preferred to go with our RE Agent. We made a great connection with her and she was a great help.
