I'm very new to this. I just got engaged on Valentines Day. Where do I start planning? Should I get one of those binders? Is Amazon the best place to get one? I know I want a fall wedding - most likely Columbus Day weekend. Its going to be a multicultural wedding.I'm Guyanese Hindu and my FH is Puerto Rican Catholic. I know I would want a hall that has an altar inside so I could do a ceremony for him.

Congrats and welcome!! Definitely take it one day at a time and try not to overwhelm yourself.. I started out with a rough budget and rough guest list so we knew how many guests we wanted to guarantee the hall. Then start researching venues. Good luck! =)

Congrats! You can make your own binder. I was given one of those planning books when I got engaged and I honestly never used it. There are PDF files of planning guides that you can print out as well. I agree with getting some what of an estimate of how many guests you want there, the time of the year, how much you want to spend, etc.

Congrats! I made a list of all the vendors in Nassau and Suffolk county and went to all their websites and eliminated from there. I ended up seeing 15 places.. but you don't have to be crazy like me! :)

I have one of those planning binders and never use it.. An accordion folder was the best way to keep myself organized.

Hi ladies!
I'm very new to this. I just got engaged on Valentines Day. Where do I start planning? Should I get one of those binders? Is Amazon the best place to get one? I got one, but I haven't really used it! My advice to decide what venues to go look at. Email a bunch of venues, get the quotes and then see whats in your price range. And decide from there which venues you want to see, so you don't waste your time going to venues that are out of your budget.
Good luck and don't stress!
This website has been very helpful so far with my planning! If you have any questions the girls on here are great with giving feedback!

Welcome and Congrats! I agree with all of the woman before me to just enjoy being engaged and take it one step at a time. Def find out your budget first off and the amount of people your wedding is going to be. That will help you narrow down the vendors greatly! Then start visiting places, I have a planning binder from the Knot that i do use, but a folder also helps too so youre not lugging the binder all over the place! Happy Planning!

Congrats! I built my own binder. I bought tabs, a business card holder sheet, a large zip pouch, and sheet protectors, then put them in a binder. All my receipts, and even contact info for vendors in considering all all in one place. I use Excel for a guest list, and to keep track of my spending.
I found the same thing when calling venues. We live in Manhattan and I didn't want to waste my time and theirs by seeing things that wouldn't fit our budget or guest list.

I did the same thing with the binder! Created my own with tabs & sheet protectors. I keep all of my contracts there and any correspondence with my vendors that's relevant (as we've already changed/added things to contracts so I keep that in there).
