Original post by KarenB

And are you happy with them? I have just switched to Commerce Bank, so far so good.

Many thanks.

I have accounts at Washington Mutual and Bank America. I've never had a problem at WM. But I have had some customer service issues with Bank of America but their online banking is pretty good!!

That is so strange that so many of you have had negative experiences at Chase. Both FH and I (seperately and jointly) have savings and checking at Chase. Neither of us have ever experienced any problem sat all with them.
I generally use the ATMs and I find that there is pretty much one on every corner.

Washington Mutual & Chase...

Chase is HORRIBLE!!! I'm in the process of having my direct deposit switched to my Washington Mutual account..

What's good about WM is they have branches in other states (ie: Florida, California, etc.) so if your away you can always find a branch ATM and not pay the 1.50-2.50 charge.

I dont know your situation w/ Chase but its great for me...

on a side note, i also work for them
Chase banking is in 19 states currently

I've never seen one in Florida. They maybe there I dont know, but i've never saw one.

I lost my Chase card and ordered another one.. it took my dayyyyyyys before I got a new one. I told the branch I would come by to pick it up since it was right around from where I worked.. they NEVER called me to tell me it came in.. so after about 3 weeks I called to find out where my card was, they said someone called you and told you it was here.. I said NO they didnt.. total liars!

Another thing that happened was when I went to use the Chase ATM machine in my building. I punched in my code 3x's and it said I had the incorrect code.. and I know I did it correctly 3x's!! So I went over to the branch and tried to use the ATM there and I got the same error.. I picked up the phone and spoke to a representative on the other end and asked them what the problem was.. the lady told me that their must have been something wrong w/ the ATM machine I used earlier.. and because I tried my code 3x's and got errors it LOCKED my card and now I had to wait 24 hours before I could take out $$$... I started freaking out.. I was stuck in NYC w/ NO $$ and no way of getting any $$$... it was after 5pm and the banks were closed.. I started to cry on the phone cause I needed to get home, and the lady was so rude telling me their was no way to access the $$ in my account.. I would have to wait..... Long story short, they did nothing for me, and I had to call my DH collect to come pick me up in the city in rush hour traffic... I didnt get home till 8:30 and I was so MAD!!

I guess my 2 experiences with them turned me off..

I like WM so far & I like that there are branches around when I go away on vacations.

sorry you had to deal with that..i can understand why you left. i would hate to be stuck somplace...

WM is great and i'm glad there is more compeition coming up to NY..along with Commerce bank.

As for FL, i don't think we are there yet... 19 states is big though for a bank in US..i believe Citicard is the only other major bank with national coverge..(i think they have 25 states) and besides credit unions...

Checking and 1 savings account at Dime of Williamsburg.
Savings account at Ridgewood and Washington Mutual. WM and Ridgewood have some of the higher interest rates that I have seen (other than ING).

I have had Citibank since 1992. They have been great. I was doing online banking with them when it was in its early development (when you had to use a modem to dial in... didnt use the WEB).

I also use Pentagon Federal Credit Union. They are kickarse!

I was with Roslyn (formerly NYCB) for a while and had nothing but bad experiences with them. I now have joint accounts (checking and savings) with my FH and I couldn't be happier. I love their online banking system!

Citibank-share

Chase-mine
SWRCFCU (texas)-mine

I love my FCU best, but Citi is free because it get it through my company.

My FCU gives great loan rates and it's nice to know I am one of the first 10,000 members and they KNOW me since I have been am member since I was 16. Im definitely more than a number to them.

I keep meaning to close my Chase acct.

I used to have Washington Mutual for about a year, hated it.. I love online banking and hated their website.. but if your a branch/atm basics person, they are good and have above average customer service..
