FH and I just bought in East Northport. He has been saving for about 4years for it. Because he makes more than I do we worked it out that I am paying for the wedding and he is paying for the house. It hasn't been easy, we've made a lot of sacrifices but its worth it.
Prices are ridiculous right now and have been - it took us 2 years to find a house and we looked at some that were HORRIFIC but in the end it all worked out.
Be patient and save, save, save. You'll be amazed at what you can save when you are really serious about it.

We have been looking at the South Shore and out East. We had an accepted offer for a house but we found out it had alot of costly problems so we are back to square one. We have looking for a few months now. The prices are CRAZY! I know how you feel.

We're going to buy an apt. in the city (Brooklyn), until we decide where we want to finally settle. Hopefully that'll be the city too!

We just bouhgt a house in Greenlawn. It's definitely our 'starter' house - next one will have a lot more property.

We just bought a house in North Babylon. The further out east you go the cheaper the houses become. You also get more property in Suffolk. We are goin to rent the apartment upstairs from us for a few years, and then we will take the whole house over. The apartment will really help every month to make our mortgage payments.

Like Jodi, we have a house in Huntington. Unlike Jodi, we have a mortgage.
When we were looking, we mainly viewed homes in Oytser Bay, Huntington, Greenlawn, Centerport, Northport/Asharoken/Eatons Neck and Ft. Salonga as well as a couple in Nissequogue and Head of the Harbor (the latter two were too far of a commute to NYC.)

I'd love to buy a house in Huntington but I know we won't be able to for a little while. I sort of have my own apartment in the upstairs of my parents house. (minimal rent due to saving for a house) So hopefully..........in 11 months we can save save save!

We really love huntington as well, but I also like the southshore in like East Islip or Oakdale. Some where on the water. We will definitely be buying a condo first, though. So a house won't come for a few years.

We are planning to move to Florida in about five years. We looked into buying a house out east but I think I would feel sooo alone out there, all my family lives in Nassau. We are going to look for a 2 bedroom condo in Nassau. Hopefully we will find something nice in our budget. However, not to sound mean, but one of my aunts is very old and has a house in Floral Park that we will eventually buy when she moves in with another aunt of mine. It is a beautiful starter house with three bedrooms two baths. Not much propert though. I hope that doesn't sound too mean. I really do love her.

We're going in June to check out some more model houses that were just built. We have one model in mind that we want, but some new ones have been built so we want to check those out as well.

We're not staying in NY. After the wedding, we're going to North Carolina! We're just sure if we will go immediately, or wait a few months to get everything settled first. I kind of don't want to be stressing out about the wedding and a house at the same time!

I always though i wanted to buy a house on Long Island.. but now I really just realized I am not ready to be suburban. I think we will keep saving and rent for 2 years and see what the market will do- the prices will come down, so I think we'll wait & save and be able to put down 20% on something instead of 10%. I think we'll probably stay in Jersey City or Edgewater in a Condo.. I will worry about kids when they come. I am just not ready to be away from the City yet... the prospect of the LIRR again makes me stressed.

We will be looking in the Huntington-Greenlawn-Northport area eventually... We need to save for another year (at least) till we can even start looking!
