I was looking at real estate books the other day and the prices are so ridiculous right now...I think we will be saving for ever

Re: Where do you plan to buy a house?
Commack/Smithtown/E. Northport/Kings Park area.
Once we get priced out of that area, we'll start looking a little further, like West Islip, Lake Grove, Miller Place....it seems clear that I will need to leave my job in the city if this happens. Too far to commute.

Manhasset. My DH works in the city and needs to be in walking distance of the train. We live there now, and it is really great (and close to my parents who live in Old Brookville).

Re: Where do you plan to buy a house?
Thankfully FH bought a house about 8 years ago. I am very lucky that we dont have to start house hunting in this market. I dont know how people afford it.
Good luck to everyone looking.

New Jersey .... much cheaper (in certain rural towns) and less crowded than LI or NYC.

Re: Where do you plan to buy a house?
We have a deposit on a new home being built in Shelton CT Will probably move at the end of this year, after the wedding. We looked on LI, but could not live w. paying those high taxes...taxes are much lower outside of NY.

Re: Where do you plan to buy a house?
We each own a home, me in Bethpage and him in Deer Park. Between the two of us, the taxes we pay could buy us a new car ever 2 years. It is ridiculous.
