I asked a few ppl at my job what they thought 'optional' ment, and they said that it's a dressy affair. If you would like to wear a tux you may, either way it suggest you should dress for an semi formal evening affair.

Here is what my invitations look like, and we used 'Black Tie Optional'...

I wish I did this for my wedding. I actually had a couple show up in there Saturday casual khaki;s

This is my fear. I don't want to put black tie invited, b/c its not that formal, only groomsna & dads will wear tuxes & thats' fine, they'll stand out, but I have been to several weddign wearign soem of my friends just wear skirts & sweaters or blouses, which I thought was inappropriate.

I guess in the grand scheme of things, its not a bid deal, but how do you indicate, ' no bsuiness casual attire'

and to answer the original question, go with what Crane's says.

This is my fear as well, even though we're not having a black tie event. Still, of the 3 weddings in FH's family I've been to, about 75% of the guests dressed down to jeans (or SHORTS!) immediately after the ceremony or at some point in the evening. It was awful.

I am making sure that FH spreads the word to his family and friends that casual dress is inappropriate for any time during our wedding day. For a less-formal-than-black-tie affair, word of mouth is the only way I know to do this.

Most of the casual dressers are my friends, I think , so I guess word of mouth should work.

I'm also trying to find formal invites I can afford.
D& J- yours are pretty, where did you get them?
