where to have my wedding
I just got engaged on Saturday and the planning has begun! I need to find a nice place on Long Island, that's not outrageously priced. Any suggestions?

Some suggestions
I am getting married at the Hamlet Windwatch in Hauppauge. My good friend got married at the Port Jeff Country Club. Check out East Winds, I have heard lots of good things. Meadow Club is nice and very well priced. There are the Scotto Brother places- Fox Hollow, Westbury Manor, Watermill and one more that I cannot remember. Villa Lombardi's is supposed to have amazing food. Miller Place Inn is really nice too. I think it all really depends on what type of wedding you want. How many people you are inviting is also a big factor.

Congratulations
Pick up a copy of Locations magazine - you can buy it in a bookstore or they have it free in Fortunoff and Macy's near the Bridal Registry area. It is very helpful, but some of the price quotes are a little off. Also, ask around - everyone has been to events at different place and you can get a lot of opinions. Good Luck!

Congrats! Now the fun begins!!
I'd second the recommendations given above-LI Weddings of Distinction is a great resource, as are friends/relatives that have been to weddings in the area. You definitely need to ask yourself what kind of reception you want-do you want one at a reception hall that is glittery and glitzy or do you prefer more subdued? Do you prefer somewhere near your home? Do you want to get married near the water?? Let us know some more details of what you are looking for. I am getting married at the Westbury Manor, and have only good things to say about them, so far. If you are flexible with days and time of the year, prices at all of the Scotto locations are (IMO) reasonable. Good friends of ours were married at the Thatched Cottage last summer, and their reception was fabulous. They had a great experience dealing with the banquet managers there, and would highly recommend them. Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide!!

Try weddingfacilitiesandservices.com. They also have a magazine that you can pick up at a bookstore like Borders or Barnes & Noble. It was definitely the most helpful magazine I have seen (and I have stacks and stacks of magazines). It lists each place, capacity, price range, sample menus, etc. - Everything you could possibly want to know about a place. I am getting married at the Sans Souci of Sea Cliff. A little small (max 180) but a beautiful location on the water and very reasonable. Good luck!

where to have my wedding
If you`re willing to have your wedding in an off month (like I am) you`ll find that almost any place is reasonably priced. Two places that my FH and I found to be reasonably priced year round were the Stewart Manor Country Club, and Brentwood Country Club. Both places were pretty nice, and you would be the only affair going on. Brentwood also offers an all inclusive package if you`re interested.

where to have my wedding
Congrads! Have fun planning. There are sooo many nice places in LI. I got the Locations books and just started looking. I must have saw at least 15+ places. You can rule out a lot of places by having an idea of how many people you are having. Some places have minimums or maximums. I would start with that and then if you have a price range work it from there. Also, know what you are interested in. You may start changing your mind pnce you sart seeing places. Since I am getting married in late fall, grounds weren't my highest priority because I know I am not having and outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour. I also preferred a place where I would be the only affair going on. I also didn't want to go too far out on the island. So that helped me choose between the 15+ places. Like others said, some places become more reasonable if you are willing to have a Sunday or Friday night wedding...something to consider. Good Luck and use this board...but be careful you can get addicted to the board.

Decisions, decisions!
As everyone has already said, there are so many places on Long Island to pick from. Definitely consider what`s most important for your reception. Do you want a place on the water, or a place with lots of gardens .. or both. Do you need a big place or a small place. Also, make sure you ask about smoking. We were at a wedding at Imperial Manor last summer, and were shocked they allowed smoking in the reception room. For me, I wanted someplace on the water. I asked the girls here, and was given glowing reviews about John Anthony`s. I made a few comparison phone calls .. to save on unneccessary trips to places that would not suit us, for whatever reason, and John Anthony`s sounded even better. They were the one and only place we looked at. Don`t be afraid to call places. You can rule out lots of vendors, from reception sites to anything else, by asking some of your most important questions over the phone. That will save you tons of driving around. If you`re looking for a place on the water, we found John Anthony`s to be an exceptional value. The cocktail hour was beyond huge .. tons and tons of food. The staff is so professional, pleasant and helpful. We never heard any complaints about the place .. from friends, vendors and this site prior to the wedding, or from anyone after the wedding. The food was awesome .. all of it. My only concern was not being the only reception, but that was fine too. They just recently completed renovations there, and it turned out great. Overall, the building is not huge, but space is properly allocated. Good Luck with your search. As you decide on what`s important to you for your reception, pass it along. The girls here provide so much useful information!

Long Island Weddings of Distinction
You should pick up this magazine - it lists a lot of places in Nassau and Suffolk that hold wedding receptions including cateering halls and hotels. It will also give you some ideas for other vendors such as photograhpers, bands/DJ's, dresses etc... We decided to go with the Wyndam Wind Watch Hotel in Hauppauge - it is really beautiful and reasonably priced - We are paying $85 pp for a 5 hour reception. We decided to go with a hotel because we are having a lot of out of town guests. Best of luck with your planning!
