Where are you planning on living after the wedding?
We have an apartment now and we have considered buying a house with whatever money comes in after the wedding, considered putting an entire second floor on my parents house, and finally considered a 3 bedroom condo in the town that we live in. I am at such a loss with the way the economy is to think about buying a house and then possibly not being able to afford it. What we pay for rent tho could be a mortgage payment.
I am so curious what everyone else's plans are....

FH bought a house 3 years ago. I have been living at home (parents are very old fashioned!!). I will be moving into his house!

we are going to stay in our current apartment for at least 2-3 more years and continue saving. but we also have a great place so we have no desire to move now anyway.

Hopefully our own house. FH has an apartment now and we're going to try our best to avoid renewing the lease in April. We'll see though.

Re: Where to live after the wedding?
We have been looking for a house but... they way things are and I am not working right now... we put the search on hold.
I bought my co-op a couple of years ago - so that is where we will be.

Re: Where to live after the wedding?
I own a coop we live in. We will be selling right after the wedding and buying a house.
If you are unsure if you can even afford a house, the chances of getting a mortgage in this day will be very slim. They are being extremely careful about lending money now. It is next to impossible to get a loan and if you don't have 20% to put down there is almost no chance. You cannot get two mortgages anymore nor can you get jumbo loans and for the prices of houses on LI most people need jumbo loans so it is not going to be easy.
For any of you first time buyers looking to get a house...I wish you luck. My advice is to save as much as you can so you can get at least the 20% down but it is a buyers market so it is a great time to buy.

Hopefully we'll find a house we can afford...but I'm doubting it will be right away!
