One of my closest friends is openly gay, and I would love to have him stand on my side at the wedding. FH wouldn't mind having him as a groomsman, but since he is MY friend, I feel that it would make more sense for him to stand with me. Of course, it's not typical to see guy 'bridesmaids', but I'm all for breaking wedding traditions. Has anyone ever seen/had or is anyone having a gay, or even straight, guy stand with their bridal party?

I've seen this a couple of times, both guys on the girl's side and girls on the guys side. Go for it.

My very best friend is a gay man and he is my man of honor. I do not have a maid/matron of honor.
Let him be a GM - it doesn't matter who's friend he is and when you take your photos with your BMs, include him.
I was a BM for a guy friend's wedding even though I knew more of the GM than BM.

Put him wherever you want him to be. My brother is my Man of Honor and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I had my 2 brothers stand on my side...and my brother's wife was my MOH...that was my whole BP...

I don't see an issue with it. It is your wedding who cares.
For me I don't think that it matters which side they stand on as long as they are in the wedding. FH has a female best friend who is in the wedding party and she is standing on my side.
But I don't think it matters, wherever you want them to stand- they can stand!
